I was just thinking about this. What if it's a sealed pack of Danish bacon. I wonder if it had to be packed in the EU as well as sourced from there! Surely they can't ban people from taking in their own produce. Saying that it is the EU wobble
The EU has long-standing rules about the import of 'processed animal products' from outside the EU without the full supporting paperwork that, following Brexit now apply to the UK. In the example of Danish bacon it has been exported from the UK and you are trying to re-import it from outside the EU. Re-importing is importing so not permitted.

And yes, they surely can ban people from taking in their own produce - if that produce is being imported into the EU from outside the EU it's being imported into the EU so the EU import regulations apply.

And as for "Saying that it is the EU", well these are not new rules, they are the long standing ones that have been in place since way before 2016 and as such the rules we all knew we were voting to have applied when we voted to leave the EU.
And there I was thinking that how EU and UK dealt with each other after 1st January 2021 wasn't agreed until 24th December 2020. Thanks for pointing everything out type
The EU's rules for importing from "third countries" aren't new, and are exactly the same for the UK as other "third countries" have had to deal with for years. The EU hasn't changed anything, it's the UK that negotiated it's way from being a "first country", and agreed to becoming a "third country" - that was the UK's choice so not something that can be blaimed on the EU. Anyway being unable to take a packet of bacon on the Eurotunnel was the clear, unambiguous will of the British people from the 2016 referendum so the UK governments hands were tied. Brexit means Brexit, this is what Brexit is and the people voted for Brexit ergo this is exactly what the UK vited for in 2016.

That's strange the founder of the Trade and Borders consultancy in an article on the BBC today seems to think it was to do with the fact that UK government and EU didn't have long enough to negotiate the final trade deal rather than people voting for Brexit in 2016 confused

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/55648201

I would say the current situation is a result of it reverting to a 'default' due to the fact they ran out of time to dot the i's and cross the t's and as the article says it's in neither parties interests. Bonkers, the lot of them! wobble

I suspect that by the time we're allowed back into France, this will have been sorted.

I see that Pfizer are having production problems, so 2021 is now "unlikely" and 2022 is at risk

Don't worry - copied part of the article:

The pharmaceutical company that created the first UK-approved coronavirus vaccine is to temporarily reduce deliveries to Europe as it steps up production.

The UK will see short-term delays in delivery of the vaccine as Pfizer upscales production in efforts to produce more doses than originally planned for 2021.

Shipments of the vaccine, produced in Puurs, Belgium in partnership with Germany’s BioNTech, are set to be affected this month.

But the overall number of doses due to be delivered between January and March will remain the same, according to the US firm.

I have resigned myself to 2021 being a write-off. Even though there is a possibility all adults in the UK will be vaccinated by mid July (according to the news yesterday) that would still be too late. Hopefully something can be salvaged from this year. I suspect we may see a late year race again but at the rate France is vaccinating they won’t be even remotely finished this year.

The Foreign Secretary hopes we'll beat the September target, and the way it's ramping up, that should happen. I'm not sure that the French can keep up with us, but I wouldn't be surprised if they loosen their meat and fish importation regulations, at least for tourists

Is it the French or the EU? Either way I can't see what's in it for them to change the rule

People like Speed Chills etc. just need to bulk buy the banned products in France and then set up a small shop in the relevant camp site. If they don't take this piss cost wise it could work quite well.

Can you imagine this being allowed? I bet the ACO have the sale of certain items regulated and priced accordingly otherwise there be loads of pop up shops undercutting Pascal and his thimble of coffee for 1€?

Have you every had French bacon? hurl

€1 is cheap for a coffee - must be the regulation price limited shot.

As for importation of fish/meat, we didn't have time to do the deal, apparently its drafted and they want our fish and meat, and they don't want to upset the tourists any more.

So many supermarkets in Le Mans.
I think I'll bring snacks only then do a shop there.

Question- energy drinks...are they going to be an issue? Isn't there some ban on selling them in France?

this might be of interest. they supply quite a few of the British expat community in France. https://www.baconbythebox.com/
they are based in the ROI so brexit is not an issue.

personally I've been trying to work out the best way to smuggle some decent sausage, bacon and black pudding in without the border guards finding it. do you think they have bacon sniffer dogs currently in training?

not sure a dog will be able to smell bacon if it's totally encapsulated in ice first...

when its in the middle of a van piled high with crap old bikes, tents and BBQs they won't be bothered to look by the time we're next there

Good chance of finding Coleman's in the British Foods section of Carrefour, along with Branston pickle and McVitties digestives.
