This says they have an exemption... I'm emailing FFVE now to confirm
Will take a copy of my V5 to confirm ownership and age - i.e not a backdated vehicle

There seem to be some developments - they’re working on a ‘vignette de collection’, but no information about availability for cars registered outside France:

Any further news on this, planning to go to Le Mans Classique in 2025 with a 1961 vehicle, Historic taxation class in UK?

Been at my place in Normandy the last month and certainly seeing many more crit’air badges on vehicles now. We used to joke with the locals that it was a Brit’air tax..

This is a pigs breakfast. There was supposed to be an exemption for classic cars, and it seems that you can't have a sticker, (not that it would be any good) if the car predates the categories, but the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs does not believe that foreign historic vehicles have been fined so far.

Talking of pigs breakfasts, the new visa system starts in Mid 2025, (st, that's June) after numerous delays

The exemption is for French classic cars (carte gris holders).

My understanding it's there's no such exemption for non-EU classics and/or there's no mechanism to get such exemption.

Unless I’m mistaken there’s no way of enforcing the fines( no camera systems like in the UK) unless you’re very unfortunate to be pulled over in person. I’ve driven and old Classic through Paris and Rouen twice in the last couple of years..not a sniff but does the PH community know anyone who has been pulled ?

I wasn't aware - thanks. Heading to France in, er, June.

Hopefully it's a simple process having already booked everything.

The new EU visa system has been delayed several times. Maybe it will not be in place by the time of LM25. Application has to be made ahead of arrival in the EU country. Arrive without it and you will not be let in. For maybe the past 6 months you have been able to register online in order to get visa alerts and updates. Google is your friend.

I’ve no doubt we will see automated camera systems soon. However there is a big change next year with the expansion of areas using Crit’air and this includes Le Mans. https://reseauactionclimat.org/lutte-contre-la-pol...

I’m not sure if it will expand down to the circuit.

Despite having Crit'Air stickers on two cars, I'll be honest and say I am not entirely sure how they're used.

Only cars with a certain number are allowed in certain cities at particular times? If you transgress, what happens?

I am not sure I've seen any roadsigns saying 'no number 5's' or whatever.

Sorry to be a complete cretin! smile

Evenin' all.

According to this website, as of this month Le Mans has a Clean Air Zone :

https://www.connexionfrance.com/news/2025-map-fran...

Does anyone have more detail on this ? If true, I'm interested in understanding which roads are inside the zone. According to the Green Zones App, Le Mans is absent ! ( I have just updated the App too ).

No Crit Air sticker for me as my chariot is from the 1980's....I'm hoping the zone excludes the Circuit...in which case it's a case of navigating around the zone like I do at Rouen on the way down....

How ironic it would be to get fined in LM itself. There are so many classic cars in and around during classic LM dates it’s just ridiculous to think you would need to worry. Overthinking it from the UK is a definite thing.

It's not happening in Le Mans, see below. But careful in all other major cities from now on.

I have no issue with the French version of the clean air zone.

I bought a sticker for the mustang about 4 years ago. Cost about £10 if I remember correctly. Lasts for the life of the vehicle last time I checked.

Compared to London at what £10 a day it’s an absolute bargain. Buy the sticker and forget about it. It’s not worth the risk.

Unlike the uk as I understand it the sticker is valid for all clean air zones in France.

Where as in the uk. Our 996 turbo is ULEZ compliant in London but not ULEZ compliant in Birmingham because they use two different databases.

We really are getting robbed blind aren’t we.

Access to certain French cities is restricted depending on your car rating. Paris is now very restrictive for older cars, so you would need to check. That’ll progress to all other areas over time.

Depends what you prefer. In France, you don't get the option to pay to waive your classification and still enter the zone. If the area is 1,2 and 3 only, and your car is a 4, you are not allowed in, with no option to pay.

In London, if you don't meet the standards, you can still enter, it just costs you to do so.

Which one suits you better? Personally, I'd rather pay and still drive to work, than be forced to either use public transport or replace the car just because they lowered the classification one day.
