I've been using and have the Emovis tag for years as it made sense with several trips over the water to France, but now I only go to Le Mans its not really cost effective due to the monthly charges.

I came across the Ulys tag which seems better value, doing the same BUT its 90cents a day its used or they have other options per month but its month used.

eg - 1 month for Le Mans that is it.

Has anyone used or have experience of this at all? I guess it works exactly the same as the Emovis tag minus fees.

Why bother for one trip a year?

There's a thread running somewhere about Tags.

Ulys here.
Works fine. Same hardware just a different supplier and pricing scheme.
Emovis admin fees really stuck the boot in after two years of no LM.

1. Shop around as the ones with monthly charges are really only value for money if you live in France and use the autoroutes regularly. I've got a Mango tag which is just a single €1.70 charge, and only for months you actually use the tag in. Keep an eye on their site for deals and you can avoid some of the set-up and delivery charges too, all were waved in their Black Friday and New Years sales.

2. As for "Why bother for one trip a year?", well I've got a low, right hand drive sports car and am often driving solo. Just dropping to 20MPH and sailing through the "t" lane is much easier than; stopping, taking off seat belt, getting out the car, running around the car, taking ticket/paying, running back around the car, getting back in, seat belt back on, and setting off!

The other time I tend to use it is driving down to the alps in Feb. A sudden jump in noise and freezing blast of air doesn't help sleeping children (or co-driver in the passenger seat trying to get some rest) stay asleep.

Is there a monthly charge for Emovis tags? I thought it was €6 a year?

I have one for my infrequent drives though France.

I've got a BipGo tag, honestly can't remember how much it costs, maybe a couple of euros in the calendar month it's used.

Well worth it to use the 30kph lanes at the tolls and not have to scrabble around for loose change or get hit with card fees etc.

I actually use mine more when hiring cars in France than driving from the UK.

I agree

I use Emovis and only pay the annual fee, plus of course usage

€10 application fee, €8 annual fee plus €5 per month you use the tag. According Emovis website.

For once a year to Le Mans, it just isn't worth it. Even if you do have to get out and walk round your vehicle at the Peage.

I’ve got Emovis. If you don’t go to France in the year, they charge you €10 (just paid it for this year) annual fee. If you go to France in the year, they take the annual fee as 2 x €5 payments over 2 months only. These are added to your tolls for those 2 months.
So you only ever pay €10 fee per year. The year runs from date of purchase and as I’ve had mine for over 10 years now, the t&c’s could be different.

Christ that's expensive!

Get a Mango tag when it's on offer (like it is right now) and it's a €0 application fee, €0 annual fee plus €1.70 per month you use it.

Even outside an offer it's only €11 application fee/€14 delivery to the UK/€1.70 per month you use it, so worst case €3.70 more expensive in the first year/€9.30 cheaper in the second year. Do it now and that becomes €21.30 cheaper in year 1/€43.60 cheaper by the second.

Ah yes, mine is linked to my French account.

I don't think it needs to be a French account though, just one that will accept SEPA direct debits in Euros. I think a lot of the modern online banks like Wise support these so might not be too big an issue.

Looks like €1.70 per month management fee, free for three months?

But that does look like a good deal if you travel more than once a year.

I have a Bip&go and it works very well.

The set up fee is €20 then the €1.70 fee is only charged for the month in which you use it. Unfortunately my holiday was end of Aug to early Sept. so €3.40 eek

Pales into insignificance compared to the Autoroute fees laugh

I use a Euro Revolut account to pay it.

Also you can change it to other cars at no cost via the app.

Works in Spain and Italy too.

Blimey, that Mango is a good deal. Don't think that offer was available in June frown

It's a no brainer really.

I was very much of the opinion "what's the point for one trip a year?" But when it's so cheap it's daft not to.

Sounds good - is it possibly to link Mango to a UK bank account or does it require a EUR bank account?

Mango seem to do offers quite regularly. There was Black Friday one in 2021 and then a New Years Sale one at the start of 2022. And no, it isn't liike an Allied Carpets sale as they do end/have periods of full price. I know that...because I got mine the day after the New Years Sale ended grumpy
