I think I remember someone posting (ages ago) that there is a cafe somewhere on the way down that has pictures of all the cars on there way to Le Mans through the years. Does anyone know where this cafe is as I would like to stop and have a look in it?

Found this at:

Hotel de France in la Chartre-sur-Loir - the bar walls are covered with photos of Astons and racing drivers, but above all the food is wonderful!. The spelling of this Loir is correct by the way.

Paid a visit to the Hotel de France for the first time last year. It's about 30mins south of Le Mans, so can't be the place the original poster asked about.

On the Friday of race week, the town square is packed with Brits in sports cars.

I can't comment on the food, but their beer is very nice.

Chartre/Loir is actually south(ish) of Le Mans so not strictly on the way. It's normally a good place for Friday lunch, and the square in front of the Hotel always has a good selection of motors to ogle at.

Edited to say: "Great minds think alike".

There is a petrol station on the way down with a cafe that has loads of old pictures of car and truck accidents that happened on the adjacent road.

I know its not what your looking for but I remember it being quite good.

I cant remember how far away from LM it is but I do remember I just started to lose the Radio Le Mans broadcast at around this point!

The town square in Gace is always a good place to stop on the way down (between Rouen and Le Mans on the N138).

It gets packed with many lovely sportscars - old Bentleys, GT40s etc.

There are a few bars in the square for food and beverage.

We normaly stop off at the Bay horse at
Marmouille, a couple of mile past junction with N26 , usually a load of cars in the car park it's on the right hand side and has a petrol pump outside .
