I have cause to visit the grim north very soon so am considering a visit to Scott Leathers to have a look at their produce and maybe order/buy some garments.

They seem to have a pretty decent reputation, but what do you lot think?

Good stuff, I personally use Hideout as they're nearer to me.

I got a set of leathers from them, comfortable and stood up well to crash testing....

I was lazy though, I went to the bike show to get a set ordered as I couldn't be bothered to go all the way up there just to have a look/get measured up.

I've had my Scott Venom jacket for almost 20 years, the quality is superb.

All the are Zips still 100%, leather is lovely and thick yet supple, all the stitching is still as new, great built in armour too.

Best jacket I've ever bought tbh

RECOMMENDED

Another thumbs up. I had some made to measure textile trousers and can't fault the quality. Turn around time was quicker than quoted too.

I have some Scott gloves, bought them off the peg at the NEC about ten years ago. Not tested their quality in a crash but they've certainly lasted well, almost as new.

Much as I like Hideout a leather jacket from them is more expensive than both jacket and jeans from Scott Leathers.

+1 on this...I've got the same gear too but just had mine for 10 years and still going strong, seem to be shrinking more every year...or could that be something else...!!!

I have gloves too and are superb quality...highly recommended.

Price seem to vary hugely between different custom leather manufacturers. Could anyone shed light on how Hideout and Scott Leathers compare in quality?

Also, does anyone know anything about Dainese made-to-measure? It's hard to guess how the quality of one manufacturer compares to another, and the new CE A-ratings look so watered down that they help a lot less than the original CE standard.

I'm easily confused confused

Check out the number of TT racers who wear Scott Leathers. I know if rather be in SL than some fancy looking suit.

I've got a set of Scott's, Am, Cougar and Crowtrees. They are all good quality and great fit. Crowtrees are the best but no longer running. Biggest difference between them and Dainese is the weight. Italians leather is a lot thinner. My Dainese had one small crash and mine were wrecked. 120mph off in my Crowtrees and it looked like someone had rubbed them with sandpaper.
Have a look at Wintex. They make some nice gear. Just a long way to go. ??

I’ve crash tested my Scott leathers and they did brilliantly well.

The only downside is the weight - much heavier than off the peg Italian suits.

Thanks Sidecar Man and Yajeed thumbup

I was wondering about the weight (how much do you notice it, e.g. in summer) and whether vented leathers would be better?

I read somewhere that Hideout leathers aren't as heavy as Crowtree and BKS confused

My Crowtrees have some venting and weigh 4.8kg with just elbow and shoulder armour My Dainese weigh 4.1 kilos with full armour(legs and arms)

Thanks Sidecar Man, that's great info thumbup

If the leathers are within a kilo of each other, then made-to-measure seems the way to go. I can't afford BKS, but the cost of made-to-measure for Scott Leathers seems similar to off-the-shelf Italian brands.
