Money invested in build.

I will cut to the chase. I have a more than a few grand invested in parts/cash in a build for a car that I am meant to take delivery of before the end of the year. Trouble I have is that the guy I have doing the build has gone off the radar, I can't get hold of him, not answering calls etc. Also the car is at the other end of the country so its not as if I can just pop down and sort it out. You never think that you will ever find yourself in such a ridiculous situation that I am in, I want the motor, I have invested in the build but now I am cut out of the loop it seems. Yeah I guess that I have taken a chance entering into a deal with a complete stranger to have a lovely car custom built for me. Does anyone know where I stand with regards my investment? I have all the contact details etc, what do I do, small claims court?
