Hey, im looking at buying a project car for my first car, i would like something small engined (1.0L to 1.5L) but reliable. my budget is £500-£750. Ive had a look at a couple of cars but theyre either too expensive or too big of an engine.

cars ive liked:
Saab 900 turbo
volkswagen beetle (classic)
mazda mx5 (Mk2)

Some help would be great thanks.

I'd go with an MX5 if I were you. They're cheap, plentiful, easy to work on and parts (new & used) are easy to source. They're also good fun and there is a wealth of enthusiastic and knowledgable folk out there, who I am sure would be willing to help.

RWD and great fun.

There are even some cheap MK1's out there!

You checked insurance quotes first? The Bug might be a smart idea because seeing as you'll need a black box there's no point being tempted to go quick.

Go have a read of Bridge To Gantry and their 24 hour effort. Theres also a thread in Readers Cars from a guy doing similar.

yeah i checked insurances and the bug is the cheapest out of them all just finding one thats salvagable is hard, beetles are one kf my favourite cars. The mazda was way too much for a first car, the beetle was around £1400 per year without black box for insurance which i think is not bad.

Go for the Bug. Ask around VW forums for examples.
