Hi guys

I'm sure this thread has been done to death but your suggestions please as things do change quickly in the car market.

I have 35K sitting in a bank doing sweet FA. I don't necessarily have to spend it all a 15K car would be great as well . I am thinking of buying a car that at worst will not loose money and at best may actually increase in value.

I have a TVR Cerbera at present so don't want another TVR, what would you suggest? It can be modern or classic, 2 or 4 seats but must be of a sports car / GT/RS in nature as I will be using it on the track and road mileage will be minimal.

So your ideas please or even better if you know of a good car being sold that is not overpriced then please PM the details.

Thanks

I would be much more than happy with this-

Shouldnt depreciate.

Will take time to learn how to get the most from it.

Reasonably reliable. Reasonably easily serviced at home.

Amazingly £15k is the price of decent E46 M3....They seem to be going one way.

My money (albeit ever so slightly more) would be on the Audi R8 V8 Manual. Not sure how much more these will drop but they my must be near levelling out?

ETA

Exige.

Z4m roadster would be a safe bet..

Its exactly what my bro in law did at the start of the summer as he didnt want to take his cerbera on the euro trip we had planned (chicken) so bought a lovely low mileage Z4m roadster which was perfect for the trip and was faultless on a 3k trip and thoroughly enjoyable.
He basically wanted something that at worst he could run it for the summer enjoy it and sell at minimal loss at end of year.

Same situation, money sitting in the bank, Chimaera 500 sitting in the garage. Bought a V8 Vantage about three weeks ago close to your budget numbers.... I'm totally smitten, it's a thing of beauty to look at, and didn't need too much in the way of man maths for the numbers to stack up smile

Impreza P1? Look where they're going. If they're anything like my 22B then it'll be the best car you ever drive. Look at values too. If you look at a P1, find one that has had an engine rebuild, Scoobies get thrashed and any standard engine will NOT be around for too long unless it's been in a collection which isn't ideal for track use.. Or what about an R33 or maybe a Supra? I think if you don't want Japanese then the E46 M3 is a no brainer as long as it's in good condition. If you get an E46, get the facelift with the LED rear lights as they seem to be more desirable on resale. For me the P1 would be the car of choice, all the good points of the Type R but with enough electrics to keep you out of too much bother. If you're looking at a Subaru but want one a bit more hard-core and involved than even a P1, then the Type R is the one to go for. There is a blue one with white wheels that has had a tonne of work done that I think would be perfect. Or of course the Cayman is pretty cheap. Seeing as you are looking more at track use I think the Type R from experience would be insane, they're so light and blisteringly fast even by today's standards. That Type R below with the rebuild will be sub 3.9 to 60 and under 1200KG. No electric aids to help you out, it would be fantastic.

996 manual coupe, an early 3.4, can pick up a good one for less than £15k & will almost certainly not depreciate now, may even appreciate slightly.

I bought this in the OPs situation. I don't think they will depreciate and I've seen a prices increase a bit in the year I've had it.
They can throw up some bills but from predictable places. The engines aren't a worry.
They are comfortable cars to tootle about in or terrify depending on the mood with about 500bhp easily upped to 700 if inclined.
Not a car that attracts much attention and just one of those old Mercs to the muggles.

If the road mileage is small and its for track work......

Not sure why you would choose a Mondial cabrio as the base for a track car, but someone did...

What appears to be a successful Caterham

https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/78609/20...

415bhp dax

https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/67149/da...

Ultima...

Also Morgans, Ginetta, Westfield, more Caterhams, Ford Anglia...

Basically loads of choice away from what might be considered more normal contenders.

If holding on to their value is an important factor (which it seems to be) I would be buying:

Integrale
NSX

But both will be topping your budget I reckon.

Exige or M12 would get my vote.
