Why not send your Alltrack back early? - that's what I plan to do - hopefully avoid the first service and changing the tyres - though obviously this works better if you are on the stupid cheap lease deal most of us got.
The Alltrack is probably the greatest lease deal known to man! Sending it back early seems criminal in my mind!

I know it seems to be popular to complain about the Alltrack but I actually really like the car. I think it's comfortable ride with a decent engine (i have the 190 DSG) and it comes with lots of kit. I do get that pulling away from a standstill isn't so great, but it's acceptable. The lag is reduced a bit if you put it in Sport mode if that's your thing.

Tyres are a good point. I'm about to swap round the fronts and rears so I'm hoping I can get to 16k miles or so by the time I hand it back without having to change them. If I do have to then I'll probably look to put the spare on and replace just one tyre.

I've had mine serviced once already. The light came on around 1y / 8k miles so I guess i must have been set to the annual servicing rather than variable. I paid around £270 for a 2 year servicing package.

I actually planned to buy the Alltrack at the end of lease so the annual oil change worked for me at the time. However, I reckon the Alltrack may be offered to me by VW for about 18k - 19k (we can only find out once we are in the last 6 months of ownership). Factor in the risk on residuals for diesels at the moment plus some cracking lease deals knocking around this quarter it seemed like the wrong thing to do.

Roll on the Arteon!

Might be mistake as 8k is same price. Also base spec and would want to test drive that engine because seems underpowered for such a big car.

However, if true they seem to be coming down nicely. R-Dynamic SE (currently £514) at this sort of price and I’d jack in my Cayenne order and live with a RR.

Called one of the other brokers to ask about 5k prices but apparently 8k is min :/

Have a look at the base spec in the flesh before you order, it looks pretty naff and you need a more juicy version for it to look right.

55% VAT inclusive, why would you expect it to be without it?
That's what it was when I handed our last car back. 50% of the total remaining and minus the VAT.
Its actually quite complicated, I recall something similar coming up with mobile phone contracts (I believe O2 used to not include VAT on early termination fees, whilst other networks did). I don't believe VAT should be applicable to termination fees as no service or goods are being provided which come under the scope of VAT. But it depends on the wording of the contract I believe.

There's a ref to HMRC guidance (quite old so may have changed since) in the last post here:

https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/any-answers/vat-on...

Sure FastBug or a PH accountant can provide more information. Or you can start digging online if you're interested smile

Not going to order, just thought it might be useful to others given the mileage allowance is decent. I called to ask about higher spec and lower mileage, but prices ramp up and 8k is min mileage :/

I've read a review which said standard spec doesn't include NAV :O. Think it would have to be R-Dynamic SE (possibly S) at minimum as it doesn't have the other compensations of the Cayenne (drives as close to a car as any SUV, albeit an average car).

Have you tried the D180 engine? Seems a little underpowered for a car that size.

Nope, not tried the D180 and not read reviews yet either. I'm currently in a Golf R estate and the family wagon is an XC60 which I'm thinking the RRV would be a decent upgrade but it would have to be the right spec for it to look right, like you say.

I'm very tempted, just trying to get a test drive sorted and give my local dealer a chance to match IMG Warrington's price.

Last time, the deal was open for a while so hoping this one is as well, I know I risk missing out but it wouldn't bother me too much as I am in a position where I can wait for another deal on another car to come along.

Edit to add: I have enquired about the Cupra on 12k miles, came out at £279 on a 1+23 so they are adding only £5 per month for each 1k miles extra. works out at 6p a mile, hich is better than the 6.98+VAT rate, but would be worse than the half price rate that many seem to be getting...

Edited by DJM7691 on Monday 23 October 16:45
Is the IMG Warrington quote including RFL for the 2 years?

I'm on the Alltrack too, finishing in June. I can get an extension quote in December which I'm going to look at, prior to fisting the trigger on another lease. I'm also considering a 3 month extension at the same price if the 12 month extension isn't attractive.

For me, this leaves me quite a big window to wait and pounce on the right deal. Potentially, I've a window from December to June-ish to find the next deal. If I find one in December, I'll maybe hand back the Alltrack in May (so as to not have to service it) or if I don't, I'll sit and wait until the right deal comes along, and then decide when to hand it back.

I really like the Arteon - gorgeous from the exterior. Only think was putting me off is that living with the Alltrack for 2 years, getting a brand new car with a near identical interior for a further 2 years is giving me reservations. Its not a bad interior, quite good actually, but if you're buying a new car, you want some new bells and whistles.

The Alfa's and the Volvo's are appealing to me for the next car - Alfa for its driving and looks - Volvo for its lovely interior. For me, the Volvo S90 (inscription) is the saloon car that Land Rover would have made. And thats quite the compliment (IMO)

That is a good point about the interior of the Arteon being virtually the same as the Alltrack. However, I'm hoping the virtual cockpit or whatever VW call it will keep me entertained for a bit!

Will be delighted to report back once the car is delivered. I'm not sure how it couldn't work out now. I have the finance docs from the supplying dealer, so I know where its coming from, know the address and contact details, and have a VIN number and numberplate. Fair play if anyone could fake this! Motorlet are legit and a good company. Will confirm once I have it.

I'm ready for a new car as I'm a little sick of my Golf R. I nearly went for an S4 but when I added it up the running costs were just too high because of insurance and us being under 30.

Not really sure what else could replace the Golf R. Someone suggested Alfa but the wife thought it was too big and I wasn't keen. Wondering if a normal A4 Black Edition would suffice.

Arteon too big. Everything else I like is too expensive or I can't justify the associated costs.

A4 is same size as Arteon. In fact coming from a Hatch atleast the boot of the Arteon is closer in terms of practicality then the saloon A4 (and the avant is bigger)..

From images the Arteon looks like an A7. Still don't like it. Avant is too big. A4 Saloon boot was fine for our needs, better than the Golf R for size in fact.

Not sure what to do or what to get. We can hand the Golf back, keep it for another year or get something else.

Which costs? You mean insurance or anything else particularly?

The A4 Avant is a couple of mm shorter than the saloon IIRC. We replaced a Golf R with an A4 Avant and it was fine. Ready for a change now and looking hard at Giulias.

I wouldn't mind an Avant but the wife says 'too big'. We looked at the Giulia but didn't rate it.
The A4 Saloon was just on the limit of what she'd feel comfortable in.

It was a step up in all areas, insurance, servicing, tyres, monthlies. It wouldn't have been a big deal and we can afford it but there's being able to run something like an S4 easily, and then being able to run it but perhaps not being sensible with the money and the risk of resenting the car and associated costs. If the insurance had been less, it would have been fine. Unfortunately we're talking £850 on the Golf and £1300 on the S4! Yay for London.

Note about VWFS

Hi all

I've been renting an A6 saloon for about two months now and, thanks to this thread, shaved off another £1,200 off the cost. Am loving the car - took it to Nuremberg at ten days old :-)

Anyway, a word of warning - I notified VWFS of my desire to change the direct debit details 13 days before my second payment and received a letter confirming the change, but the payment was still taken from my original account.

In short, if you do the same, check with VWFS again a few days after you've made the change, because from the sound of my phone call today, they have two different finance systems which sometimes don't talk to each other.

Cheers!

Its more like an A5 Sport back. Definitely doesnt look anywhere near the size of an S7 in person. I'd say in terms of size you'd be hard pushed to differentiate it from the A4/A5 SB when behind the wheel. And actually the A4 looks a bigger car to the eye IMO.

Arteon: 4,862 mm L x 1,871 mm W x 1,450 mm H

Audi A4: 4,726 mm L x 1,842 mm W x 1,434 mm H

Audi A5 SB: 4,733 mm L x 1,843 mm W x 1,386 mm H

Audi A7: 4,974 mm L x 1,911 mm W x 1,420 mm H

Been there myself. No point fighting it. Curious as to what you didn't like about the Alfa? The Veloce deal on my screen seems OK and I quite fancy a car that isn't German (all my 'main' cars since 2006 have been VAG Group one way or another).
