Test drove the S4 Avant today, I thought it was a really impressed...think I might go for the fleet price lease offer on the car, with a few extras virtual cockpit, tinted windows and 19" wheels
RULE 1 when leasing : DO NOT even look at the options list! There is no man maths, you will destroy the value of the deal.RULE 2 : see rule 1.

Who are the big players for the golf R deals when they drop? Assuming the deals are under written VWFS who's best to lease through?
Get the feeling I'll need to be quick for an R hatch so who's best for a 1st timer like myself to deal with
Anyone any idea whether any of the next deals will include the estate or do we expect the hatch? I know I missed the last deal by dithering. Get the feeling I'll need to be quick for an R hatch so who's best for a 1st timer like myself to deal with

Don't forget that you can get S4 with £6,362 discount, so real price is £38,438 or around £40K. (Our Discount Price includes the £2,000 Finance Deposit Contribution from AUDI UK when taking AUDI finance. If buying cash please add £2,000 back onto the Discount Price above. )
Then 12000/38438 = 31% of price.

I fancy the same, but instead of tints, the folding mirrors. How a car like this doesn't have them as standard is criminal!Have you had a quote include those extras yet?

Think I made a massive mistake in not jumping /triggering / punching fruit on the golf r or skoda vrs deals as I think through the potential cost of my next service....
Slightly off topic but related to choosing a new car but does anyone know if the BMW 3 series touring, a4 avant and octavia or superb estate have offset pedals?
I have an a5 sport back tiptronic and they are offset and I am convinced it's what's knackered my back so without having to visit every dealer and see one I'd like to get an idea. I'm in the market for a reasonably quick petrol estate or a 6pot oil burner estate so any other suggestions welcome.
not the most off-topic friendly thread this TBH, try mfr forums.Think I made a massive mistake in not jumping /triggering / punching fruit on the golf r or skoda vrs deals as I think through the potential cost of my next service....

The standard wheels are 18s, but are diamond cut, and there's a disclaimer about if they corrode due to road salt, tough st.
There are a set of 19s which are £225 ( i think) more which are not diamond cut.
If you live somewhere where they put lots of salt down ( as you might if you are looking at a 4wd car) then this could save you money at the end.
I don't live next to Loch Salty so am sticking with the standard 18s.
PS - where was the S4 you test drove? - none of my local dealers have one to even sit in.
But I am speccing the £100 flat bottomed steering wheel (as I am a lanky streak of piss) and the virtual cockpit (out of complete nonsense and novelty value)

Fixed that for you
No, you didn't. Spending around £500 extra on a £11000 lease is not exactly making the lease no longer feasible. I spent £350 on options on the S5 and it's making about £13 a month difference, well worth it for how useful the VC is. No way would I spend thousands on options on a lease but a few hundred on what is not an inexpensive (even if OK value) lease is not significant.PenelopaPitstop said:

I do think that it could be cheaper to lease than buy though. When I ordered the S5 I didn't give a damn about the percentage thing (as for the reason you state above its not a good comparison system) but I worked out effectively how much I would have to get for the car after buying to make it cheaper than the lease, and I felt it wasn't worth the risk or hassle. The S4 and S5 deals are just shy of £500 a month, I had a B8 S4 that depreciated £500 a month over 3 years, let alone two and I got £4k off it when I bought it new effectively paying cash as I didn't use the Audi finance (I only borrowed the money a few months) so similar discount to what you are talking on a B9.Then 12000/38438 = 31% of price.
It's best to look at depreciations cost vs leasing cost. If leasing is lower than depreciation, it's a good deal. Question is how to establish depreciation value. I use discounted price at purchase point and trade in price at the other end. It's worth considering the hassle of selling or trading it in.
% is popular on the forum but everyone has to decide for themselves.

Yes I worked out that if I got it at the discounted price, using the Audi finance calculator (so basically put the discount minus contribution as a deposit, plus a nominal amount similar to the initial payment on the lease). The I compared the FV figure to the purchase price minus lease cost and worked out that it was costing around £3k IIRC more to buy than lease over the two years which meant I would need that amount of equity in the car vs the FV figure and getting around £34k for it at two years old and 20k miles I think. All from memory. But I personally thought I would struggle to get that in all honesty especially with the market being saturated with ex lease cars.% is popular on the forum but everyone has to decide for themselves.

I know this is the Golf R and Audi S5 lease thread but has anyone seen any good basic transport deals lately. Ive had a good look back through the thread and can't see any. I'm looking for a 3 plus 23 for around £100 per month.
Just a basic car for my daughter.
Any ideas?
