If i had such a short commute , I'd be looking for the biggest engine / highest consumption car I could find and insure.

My 5.7 mile commute takes 40 minutes, I think the engine gets warmed up. Distance is only the half of it.
For that distance I'd be using a bicycle, perhaps only every other day, but it saves going to the gym and would be quicker too if you can pedal at 10mph.
Through the tunnel not fun, the ferry is very slow

So for car options what would you recommend?
A Leaf or a Zoe and use the cash saved for something else

Electric is not an option really, due to the lack of charge points.

What would you recommend based on my budget of max 10k. I don't want something that costs a fortune in parts and service. An M3 would be amazing but realistically it's a no.

BMW 330e is a plug in hybrid so for the commute to work it'll just be powered by electricity and in the mean time you get a gorgeous interior a smooth engine and the best automatic on any car.

So say I looked at an hybrid. Any for around my budget? Don't like the Zoe or Prius. What about a Lexus?

Being honest all cars in this price range will depreciate.

Hybrid wise a Honda CR-Z is an option.

Or there's the Vauxhall Ampera challenging looks but apparent;y very efficient:

To be honest with such low annual mileage I'd be buying a Megane RS250.

Or just going all out & get a C55 these are low on the bork factor whilst still having a V8 (I know that it destroys your mpg wishes but this is PH I had to throw it in) smile

I have a ct200h, I do 450+ miles a week. It's costs £50 in fuel. I'd rather it cost £100 and was actually fun.

No they look terrible those Zoe cars. Most of the electric stuff is too high priced for something nice like a gold gte or something by BMW or Mercedes.

That is crazy, I think I'd swap to a scooter or a pushbike!

Edit: Too slow, should have read Page 2 before replying... Scooter would still be on my list, though.

That's pretty good that. Is that the one with the same dash as a lfa?

I am just after something a little bigger hence the 1 series and that's fun to drive. Got to love a 3.0ltr rear wheel drive beats. Someone I know said an R32, or even an MX5

If you can stretch to a mk3 do so, not saying the mk2s bad cars but the mk3 interior and kit is generally going to be better.

on the mk2 front this would be the better buy http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...
