Hi Guys,

Hope you'll had a good weekend.

I saw this Rexton 2.7 TD 4x4 this weekend and now I have got an idea of going for one. Its a 2005 (55 plate) model with nice leather seats and cockpit. Asking price is £1500. I know, If I bought one I would really struggle to sell it but...

My budget is around £2000. I have no intention to use it off road. So compared to Kia Sorento:
. parts easily available?
. known common issues?
. DIY job possible for any home repair?
. anything I used particularly check during the test drive?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Cheers

I think it's a Mercedes engine so it should be reasonably solid and hopefully not too difficult to find parts for (although they may not be cheap).

Thanks mate,

I've read positive reviews. I also did look on autotrader, they all advertised cheap. By going through the pics and all , the price sounds too good to be true. I think parts could be cheaper than Kia?

A lad I used to off road with has an older one (a Korenado, the jeep ripoff) they are solidly built enough, the engines are old sluggish Merc units which are rather bulletproof.

Supposed to be pretty good tow cars, and quite a lot of kit for your money
Mike Brewer used on in earlier shows of Wheeler Dealers

Guy at work has one, had no issues with the engine as people have said its a merc but he has recently forked out around £2k for repairing rust (not sure of exact location), so maybe have a good look around the body before committing.

Wow good review here as well! Ta

So long as it doesn't break down and unreliable like Jeep Cherokee, Freelander etc and hasn't got any electrical issues...I'll be happy smile

Guy I work with has one - he says you have to be careful as there are a few rot points but he just got on a ssangyongg forum and learnt what to look for.
A lot of tin for the money.

You'd probably get into an old terrano for your budget. Whilst old school it may suit your needs and will be more robust and probably much easier to source parts for. The merc engine talk is a bit sneaky and understand it's limited to just an old merc bottom end.

Good luck whatever you do for.

Rexton I'm referring to is a diesel estate....

Estate cars are handy, when it comes to loading buggies etc.

It's an SUV, not an estate. Can't help but think something like a Saab 9-5 estate would be a better all round buy if you don't need to take it off road.

Thanks for you suggestion smile

Yes, I was meant to say 4x4 Estate. I've already got a Pug 407SW, which is a fantastic car. I wanted something high up with good ground clearance. I now have bought a Kia Sorento and it feels lovely to drive.

Thank you very much to you all

Cheers
