I am a big fan of the 123d.
It's not exciting in the traditional sense of enjoyment but the ease with which it can deliver a sackload of punch is impressive
True, surprisingly quick, hand timed around 16 seconds to 100mph and and very strong mid range but only the speedo tells you that, they lack any real sensation of speed, not that economical either

I think looking at the models then I would go for a 135i if possible as that would be the one to go for, as I think you would have that nagging feeling that you should of gone for that model. There is not much difference really as they all have 3.0ltr engines.

Agreed, I hear they can average 30+mpg with a modicum of restraint, my 123d only averaged 40 and that was all on quiet, straight country roads

The shorter gear ratios don't help the economy...

If it ticks your boxes then buy it they're a nice car sweet engine if it's as good as it looks in the photos then go for it.

This one seems like a nicer one & it's not a DSG so one large bork factor is gone as well as having the timing chain changed & FVWSH.

That is very nice.

Or got for a GTI if you are bothered about the running costs of the R32.

Yeah that link to the R32 just shows a big list. I do like that black one. I did consider a Golf GTI I like the 2013 shape. I think I can get one for my budget. The only issue with the R32 is the tax.

What out of the three would you get:

BMW 135i
R32
Golf GTI

Fuel does not bother me to be honest. The R32 tax band is £200 more, but what would be more fun to drive? But also hold its value and be able to easily resell later on?

I'd go for a higher mileage 135i personally, the bmw diesels are extremely boring to drive
Maybe the 4pot but a powerfully-built 330d Sport with a remap isn't a boring car to live with at all. No better or worse than a petrol in terms of chassis, so is fun to hustle round bends. Loads of torque, goes like the proverbial off a shovel. Gets from Dover to Montpellier on the motorway on a single tank without the refuel light coming on. Does it make the same glorious noise as a petrol I6 then no, far from it. And it doesn't smell too great either. But boring to drive? Nah. Or, depends where you drive it, I suppose.

I'd go for the 135i personally but then I'm a BMW fan.

It is, but it's a heavy lump out in front of the axle...

So looked at some cars. Ruled out a 3.0 I just can't afford the cost of the petrol, insurance is quite high. Something like a 120i seems to be the most affordable.

I know others have mentioned Diesels aren't worth it for 12K miles. True - However the 2.0 D3 Bi Turbo is different and far more special than normal 3 series.

Look after it and you will not loose much.

For example I sold my 58 plate Bi Turbo coupe 4 years ago on same mileage as this for only £1K more

Worth visiting.
