£40,000 for a 40th birthday present...

It's sad to see where the car market has gone.The last time I went out to buy a car I had £40k to spend and came back with an F355 spider with £4k change.Now absolutely nothing appeals unless I spend £100k.

Do you think a "modified/modernised" classic car could be the way to go? What are the options there. I'm just one zero short of a Singer 911!
