I've got £5,000

I want to buy a car no more than £3,000
(Saving £2,000 for a nice holiday)

What cars probably the best to buy for the money?

Any sort of car really, I want something reliable, cheap to run etc. But I was looking at a coupe but I am open to other options

Yeha any really mate. Just want a good run around. Wasn't really many coupes for sale at a decent price. So may be pushed towards a hatchback or something

I was asking if you have any preference and you said "yeah any really mate"

You're not being very helpful 'mate'

Something cheap insure. Not boy racer car. Something that is a bit quick. Mileage no more than 50,000. Top price £3,000 and hatchback car.
On model and car I'm really not fussed. Just chuck some ideas!

I have to go work and back and go around at the weekend

I wouldn't limit yourself by mileage I'd rather buy something with 80k on the clock & a lot of receipts, on that note I'd say look for a CLK (I know I'm bias) they're reliable as well as swift & if you get a 270cdi they're very good on fuel.

I wouldn't be buying a Merc as a cheap run around. Could get an 06 or so Fiesta ST?

Why not, the spares are reasonable they don't go wrong & in 270 form (especially if mapped) will be mid forties on a run.

Insurance costs will be dependent on the OP, so while it may not be cheap for you it could be for him.

Where did the OP say he wanted a hatchback only, actually here's what the OP said:

"Any sort of car really, I want something reliable, cheap to run etc. But I was looking at a coupe but I am open to other options"

Nice suggestions by the way smile

Excellent personal attack, It wouldn't be cheap for the OP to insure, I've no idea how much it would be for me to insure.

Have you tried autotrader? Stick in your price, mileage, body type and bobs your uncle you have a list of cars to choose from.

We could be here all day trying to give examples of any hatchback/coupe for that price. In 25 miles from my address with your criteria brought back 557 results. The worlds your oyster.

It's not personal or an attack I don't know you, the same as I don't know the OP which is why I said it will be dependent on the OP's circumstances with regards to insurance but as an example my friends 20y/o brother has just got a quote for a CLK270 of just over £750.00 so now I'm going to find him one.
