hello guys i found a honda jazz 2002 1.4 petrol for £800 it has parts service history and it just got a recent service done to it the mot history looks normal everything is working with the car. I just want to buy this for delivering parcels and everyday use?
Sounds good then. When did you start drawing your pension?
My wife's got an early Mk2. I don't find the seats the most comfortable for long journeys but it's good on fuel, has never gone wrong, costs very little to service, and has ridiculous amounts of space inside. I'll happily fit 4 6' adults, and with the seats folded down takes her bicycle in the boot.

Perfect car. Cheap to run, own, and service. Loads of internal space, and the seats fold in a variety of ways which is very good. daddy cool said:

Nearly all Hondas are driven slowly by old farts.
Reliable though, so probably OK for the OP.
We had a Mk 1 which was super except for;
1) Rear n/s door let water in - removal of door card revealed multiple previous (dealer) attempts to sort/cure, but not a problem if I remembered to not point the hose at that door when washing...
2) Traded it in when the 'gearbox bearing' starting moaning (quoted £800+ at an indy garage or £1100 at the dealer)
Now have a Mk 2 which is lovely but somehow not quite as fun as the Mk 1 (although better equipped, slightly more economical, handles better), and is just over 70k miles/9 years and 100% reliable.
If you buy one you MUST place a NT member sticker in the window.

I had a MKI as a courtesy car back in the day, it was new. I quite liked it but is seemed gutless.
I have a MKII and love it, it's the best car I've driven by some margin, stupid economical, utter reliablity. Happy to roll along at speeds that would get Vonhousen hot under the collar or potter around town. The interior is very clever and tardis like, I'm taking it to southern Germany in a couple of weeks and don't expect any comfort issues having already done 400 miles in a day a time or two.
Your issue is you are looking at an old car. Honda have an ability to make a car last x number of years then everything fails at once. You'll have to look at this car on its own merit, not on the reputation of the model.

I have a 2006 1.2 which turned over the 100k last year. My partner's new then mine. Perfect for my muddy Cotswold single track commuting.
Unscheduled maintenance: Lower suspension arms last year. New battery.
Issues: I get a little bit of water in the spare wheel well. No rust accruing, I mop it up with a couple of sheets of kitchen towel a couple of times a year when I flip winters-summers and back. Root cause is sealing failure of roof seams. They can be redone but it just isn't worth it.
Radio died over the winter, I use aux input anyway from my music player. I'll get around to fixing upgrading. Maybe!
One thing to watch out for is steering rack stiffness after a long journey. New rack time.
1.4s come with A/C but are lower geared, noisier on the motorway and less economical. They also don't ride quite so well as the wheels are larger.
For a sheddy mcshedface they're ideal. I rather enjoy driving mine. The engine is eager (as far as it goes!) and fairly smooth (for an OHC 4) to the red line. Gearchange is light. Handling is OK.

Missus has had one for just over a year now... cheap to run and does the job (lots of toys) but:
Boot plastics just 'fell' out
Window switches died
Annoying pedal squeak
Dangerous airbag recall so check this has been done
Heating stopped working
Nothing major, but less reliable than her previous KA for sure!

I've got a 05 Jazz with full history and 75000 on the clock
Fine when we bought it as a daily Shed just over a year ago it's practical and nice enough to drive and very good on fuel, but mine's recently picked up 6 MOT advisory warnings on corrosion, the gearbox is getting noisy because the input shaft bearing is failing and the front suspension top mounts need replacing as they've worn to such an extent its ripping its tyres to bits.
It's been back - twice - for an airbag recall and in hot weather the clutch has an annoying squeak that no amount of WD40 will fix and the radio is useless
Not at all what you'd expect from a Honda. I certainly wouldn't buy another one - and that's from somebody whose had old French cars for decades .

My sister has 60 reg. and whilst it's 'competent', that's about as far as it goes. It's neither outstanding or soul-stirring in any department so probably suits its intended driver profile to a T - and the interior plastics are as hard as Lego and very, very grey. I didn't like it, wouldn't buy one but she said it was dependable and economical i.e. a perfect pensioner's car.
I've had a Jazz Hybrid for commuting since 2016. It's a good little car. The boot handle occasionally sticks and the brake switch has been giving some issues lately so that needs a bit of attention. Apart from that, it's been great. Economical, very practical, cheap to run and insure. It does what I ask of it well but it's not a soul stirrer. My wife has a Civic and that is undeniably a better car.
My wife has a lovely pearlescent white top of the range version with glass roof & interior electric blind, a/c, cruise, comfy drivers fold-down arm rest, Does 50mpg & engine is silent as if electric. NT sticker in windscreen of course & I love pottering about in it & as per accepted behaviour NEVER exceed 40mph anywhere anytime.
Service & courtesy from Honda dealer & staff & its build quality puts that experienced from Mercedes & Audi to shame - ignore the snotty old fart references & badge snobs, go for it.
