Yeah a new car thread!

I'll be buying a new car this summer/autumn. It must be an older age thing, but I want a really, quiet, smooth car. Does a car exist which is as quiet/smooth as an s class or XJ etc, but a lot smaller: Golf/focus sized?

Volvo c30.

Mine settles down lovely on the motorway or just cruising along at 30. Discontinued now but no budget or year specified.

Current Golf and A3 are refined, ride well and the petrol engines are quiet and smooth.

However both suffer from excessive road noise on rough road services, but they're probably the best in class overall.

For your answer, no one doesn't exist. I would expect an A3 or the new A class to be the closest. If not the A4 is the best in the compact saloon segment for comfort so I'd take one of those

Simple as long as you're okay with a medium sized car, it has to be the Lexus IS250 SE/SE-L & you don't have to break the bank to buy one:

I’ve got an M235i, and we also, until recently, had an A3 e-tron. The A3 was much quieter than the BMW, and had a better ride, though I know you posted that your dad had the adaptive suspension on his 140 which would change things I imagine! The BMW has a lovely sounding engine, but quiet it is not. The A3 e-tron, which comes as standard with an acoustic windscreen, is a very relaxing car to drive, and is also pretty quick. A combined 200 BHP from memory. It’s also got a much nicer interior and it’s pretty well equipped. Ours also had an Alcantara/leather interior and a panoramic roof which made it a very nice place to be.
