Serious question - how many broken down <2 year old Octavias do you see at the side of the road or in the garage?

Probably none. Most new cars are generally reliable in the first two years in fairness.

The SE Tech Octavia has been mentioned as "basic" or equivalent in this thread before now - I fail to see where it is basic, given the spec list. Yes, the 1.0T is something we're all a bit weary of when looking at modern cars, but that aside (the 1.5T can be had for more of course), it's actually a very well equipped car.

It's basic from PH point of view. I found it for my friend and recommended it. I'm sure it's great commuting car but I would want better spec for myself (leather seats, etc). But if price is the main criteria, it's good choice.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this, is there anything I should look out for? What's the service plan on it, does anyone know?

As stated on previous page, my friend's car came on long life service with next one in 19600 miles or 705 days. So you will have to do one service during 24 months, unless you plan to do more than 20K miles during contract period. I doubt any service plan is required with one service to do.

So leather, that's fair. What else? Because I still wager it is better than many Audi/BMW/Merc at the same "level" of trim. Maybe bigger alloys? That's maybe desirable, but really - a few bits like electric seat adjustment would be nice, maybe some privacy glass?

SE Tech on the Octavia includes (from memory and previous reading on these):

Dual zone climate control
Front parking sensors
Rear parking sensors
Adaptive cruise control
3 keys and driver personal settings
8" touch screen head unit with USB/Aux/SD/voice control
Start/stop
Apple Play/Android Auto
WiFi hotspot
Satellite Navigation
Hill hold assist
Auto-dimming rear view mirror
LED daytime lights
LED rear lights
Coming home lighting
Front fog lamps
Sunglasses storage (hey, it's important!)
Rain sensing wipers
Tyre pressure monitoring
Light sensing headlamps
Collision detect

For the money, that's rather impressive. Tech to rival pretty much all the big players. Has more than the wife's AMG Line GLA in one form or another for example.

Placed an order for the 1.0 SE Octavia (+ Canton Speaker system) on 20th September, and just received the email that it's built and waiting to get on the train at the Port of Emden. That's a lot quicker than I thought it would be.

Going from a Cupra to this cry , but my mileage is now ~ 24k/year which is double what I had anticipated when I ordered the Cupra in 2016.

Just had a email from fleet renewals at VWFS stating they have some strong on Seat Models, have request a quote for a Ateca Lux DSG but does anyone know if they do good deals or better to use the brokers?

Which models does it mention? I am due a renewal soon with VWFS and don't get emails, does it link to a website or could you share the email address?

Just to share my experience, I had a few quotes for various models directly from VWFS leading up to us changing our Seat. The quotes were based on the standard terms so we shopped around and ending up getting a dealer to match our best quote, when I let the (very helpful) lady from VWFS know what we had done she did say they would normally be prepared to move on their quotes if they could (and I had a competitive quote from elsewhere) so it is worth going back to them before going with a broker.

Both A6 deals work out pretty much the same over the term.

A 1.0 litre engine in a car that size, is, imo, a bad idea, look at the problems ford have had.

Yep its the new shape, diesel model. I think some of them include a few extras in that price like heated seats (silly that its an extra, but thats audi for you), matrix headlights and park assist with the reverse camera.
