What formula do people use to determine a 'good deal'

If I'm paying x amount over 2 years on a car valued at x

What percentage of the list price over 2 years is seen as a good deal?
Only you can answer that question really.

The general rule of thumb is 20% of list over 2 years and 10k p/a, but depending on the car more than that can still be a good deal. My last 2 deals were 16.5% and 18%.

Yea, my date is 02/04/2019

ordered it 2 weeks ago.
Is that the date the broker / dealer is saying or an actual build slot from VW? Sounds pretty good based on all the previous Arteon leadtimes

I haven't been in an Arteon so can't comment but the new A5 is a nice place to be in! Not sure what else to suggest -

M140i
M240i - stock here but deal could be bettered https://www.allcarleasing.co.uk/car-leasing/bmw/2_...
Always ok deals on E-class
Thanks Strath. I looked at the M140i awhile back (5 door needed, so M240 is out) and just had another quick look. Can't find any 24m / 10k deals < 30% of list price right now, but will have a further poke. Times are hard it seems! A5 deals are about 21% right now, which is as good as I've seen on anything in months.

Hi,

What is the situation with transferring of personal lease contracts? Im 6 months in or so on one of those cheap S4 deals, think I paid £1100 deposit and £380 p/m. It was pinched last week, and recovered and is having some repairs done by audi approved bodyshop. Due to the area we live being a target I cant take the risk of having it outside my house which is a damn shame as I adore the car.

Its 8k miles contract, currently on 3k. Contract started in July last year. Black with red leather.

Speak to your funder / look at the contract

Yes, caught them in my kitchen at 2am. They legged it with the keys and sped off.

The % thing is OK but essentially a good deal is cheaper than depreciation when looking at one car in-particular. Whether that car is value for money is a different matter altogether but that normally lines up with the RRP. The thing is, 20% is a good deal for a car that holds value well. 25% is a great deal for something that depreciates quickly (high powered petrols, expensive saloons etc). Depends what you are looking for.

If anyone wants one of the Volvo V90 CC T5 try contacting Santander. They have quoted me £270 on a 1+17 @8k. If I do the man maths to convert it to 24months 10k it works out about 17%.
Best deal of the year so far???

I hope you're right - I've all but given up hope & am now toying with getting a Tesla Model S on PCP.
I looked at this but cost wise it was a non-starter.
You can't even get the 75kWh battery any more, so the cheapest Model-S is 89 grand now! Even if you take fuel and tax savings into account, it's very, very expensive.

Could well be: I've got an S90 T4 on order for £289 on a 1+23 10k and I think the V90 CC T5 has a higher list price.

VW dealers are really in the mire at the moment. Had a long chat with one at the weekend and they can’t even get cars for cash buyers never mind offer any good deals. He had a guy walk in the same day after a Golf GTI and he didn’t even have one to show him - the guy ended up walking away. The showroom is stuffed full of bog standard cars with nothing of interest if you’re after performance. He told me not to even mention the Polo GTI - just rolled his eyes. My GTD is going back in June and I was there to suss out the market from their point of view - didn’t leave feeling encouraged!

I had a similar conversation with a broker, whilst looking for a replacement Golf R. VW could not get figures for him due to emissions issues on the Golf R and not to expect any quotes until March ! Dealer I got the original Golf from has not come back to from the beginning of January. They were waiting for a technical update then and presumably are still waiting. Who knows .....if the Santander deal for the Volvo V90 CC is correct, I will go with that and hopefully when that car goes back VW might have sorted themselves out.

Same here VW can’t sort themselves out, so golf going back and being replaced with the Volvo.

That is a good deal compared to others I have seen. They have been around the £260 pm but with 9 months initial. Leaves a bit spare for fuel
