Fortunately i'm confident enough in my own sexuality that driving a 250BHP Cooper S doesnt pose a masculinity risk for me.

If it would for you then its probably you best avoid it.
Why stress its got "250BHP" then?
Because its a great little tuneable hatchback. Whats next? MX5s are only driven by hairdressers? rolleyes

Wow, 250bhp, you are all that is man.
Yeah in a small hatchback i think thats fairly decent. Clearly Real Men like you need more to prove themselves though.

I am not the one defending how manly a mini is.

No. I said they werent feminine.

Its a fast small hatch that is easily tunable and a hoot to drive.

If you cant see past your broad brush stereotype then thats your problem.

I said it was a fast small hatch. Which it is. Wholly in line with the likes of the Fiesta ST, etc though more easily tuneable.

The Fiesta is just as tuneable as the Mini in fact I'd say probably more so but agree that it the Fiesta/Clio/Peugeot etc are fast small hatches also the Fiesta/Pug are better drivers car than a lot of cars with more power.

In terms of extracting BHP i think the MCS is easier to do that with. It can go straight to 292BHP with a remap, or 246BHP with a tuning box.

But yes in terms of all round tuning the Fiesta probably has an advantage - a factory fitted LSD for example on the new ones and is the better handling car.

Fast is pointless on public roads, I'd rather something that's fun at B road speeds

Back on track...

I've been to a dealer and bartered them down to 14.5k for an 18 plate with 5 miles on the clock. Seems a very decent price for the performance and kit on a brand new car. That said they gave me a crap px valuation.

A little bit disappointed by the car itself. The interior felt a bit on the discount side of things but worse than that was the seat height. Even on the lowest position it felt like I was sat far too high.

I'm not sure it's a goer. The Cooper S is probably what I'll go for and just accept it'll maybe be a couple of years old.

The Mini is a great little car, stick a JCW pro exhaust on it and enjoy the car. Media XL and Chili Pack are the only must haves.

I have 3 friends with one who used them for commutes from 5 to 15 miles. Average mpg over term was 25-30mpg (10k miles). 40mpg would be very difficult (OP requirements).

I was in the exact same position as the OP about 2 months ago and went for a car not mentioned here yet, a polo gti I got a 66 plate with 6000 miles from the main dealer (st service but the car was immaculate). I have to say it goes some, the torque from the engine is higher than fiesta st and mini cooper s, the way it overtakes is fantastic, the E diff really does nip it in corners when pushing also, only problems with it I've found is the lack of naughty engine noises, but apart from that it is fantastic, my car was on at the dealer for 15k but ended up getting it for 14.3k with the next service free, full tank, new mats, 2 new tires and re-cut diamond wheels.

Nice one, avoid the DSG at all costs, ruins it and limits torque.

I tried the cooper but the seats gave me a bad back. Was fun to drive though.
