My wife ran a Mk7 Fiesta 1.6 TDCi Titanium for 2 years, doing a 70 mile daily (B road) commute. Drove really well, no issues, and despite her heavy footedness and sometimes unsympathetic driving style it still averaged 65mpg smile

Do it, they're good cars and IMO mk7 is the best of the bunch (including the new mk8).

I went into Ford intending to buy a mk8 for my wife, they matched our monthly so it would have cost nothing more day to day, but our 3 year old mk7 facelift felt tighter & more solid than the exact same model (zetec + nav) in the mk8.

Do you know what extras the titanium has over the Zetec?
I’m just wondering I’m I’m limiting myself too much on trim...

Titanium gains half leather, auto lights and auto wipers. The better sony radio and auto folding mirrors and keyless entry

They are stolen very often because of the ease to do it, lots of staff in welsh hospitals come out and find the whole front end stolen too. Although I think that’s more 7.5s than the mk7

My mum has a 1.6 petrol auto and it’s really nice, does 50mpg all day, think the eco boost is simular

A polo is a bit more refined

I thought the ecoboost had more horror stories associated with it, or did they just catch fire?

What’s wrong with the 1.6 other than being boring?
I need a boring car.
I spent most of my journey home last night in 2nd gear (& not in a good way).
The diesel's probably OK, it's just that unless I was buying something in shed territory, the values of diesel vehicles may tank overnight depending on future legislation so I probably wouldn't want to be putting too much money into one. I have also heard that demand for diesel for marine fuel is going up, so it's going to get more expensive at the pumps and the cost saving in running a diesel in a small car just isn't going to be there. The 1.0 Ecoboost is lighter, so better ride and handling and also no dual mass flywheel. smile To be fair, the comparison I was making on petrol vs. diesel was a mk3.5 Focus diesel (might have been the 1.5) vs. a mk7 Golf with a 1.2 turbo petrol. I thought that the Focus was overall the nicer car but spoiled by a very rough engine and I only averaged 3mpg better than in the Golf under similar conditions (48 vs. 45mpg). The petrol engine in the Golf was smooth, punchy and significantly more refined. I would expect the 1.0 Ecoboost and in a smaller car to be even punchier and more economical. As used to be the case with turbos, I think if you let it idle for 5 minutes after a motorway run to cool the turbo down, you should be OK with an Ecoboost. smile

Don't go for the 1.6d that engine is a bad one (it's a Peugeot unit & unlike most Pug diesels this one is a dud) go for a petrol in Fiesta form the 1.0 ecoboost that's had the recall work carried out would be my pick:
Not that I've been a fan of the 1.6 D engine, but the ones after 2010 / 2011 are OK. The injectors are mounted at the back of the engine, and the injector clamps have been hugely beefed up so don't leak. This makes the engine OK in my book.

I knew it was updated but thought it was later on, in that case OP consider the 1.6d.

Thanks to your advice I’m now the proud owner of this little beauty:

With new tyres & a decent polish it’ll hopefully make a nice little runaround.
I do wish dealers wouldn’t put air fresheners in their cars though, after a couple of hours in the car I smell like a tart’s handbag!

I’ve never had a ford that didn’t have some pretty fundamental faults. Isn’t there a Japanese/German alternative that would be equally soul destroying but more reliable?

How about a Honda Jazz or VW Polo?
As pointed out already 'Britain's best selling car' so these fundamental faults you refer to must be a case of you being unlucky.

Fiestas are great cars.

They're just a tad noisy on the motorway, but not unbearable.

Without intention I realise I'm on my 4th one.

It’s ok, it sounds like a tractor but recorded over 60mpg on the commute yesterday.
Last night I spent 10 minutes cleaning the sticky ingrained dna off the steering wheel so my hand doesn’t stick to it.
Next job is to replace the unmatched tyres.
I really really hate unmatched tyres.....
