Some on here must know far more about this than I.

My nearly new scooter/bike was robbed. I was gutted. Hastings have sent the cheque after two months. I'd moan but their valuation was £1 more than I paid for it brand new. Minus the excess I'm down £299, my disk lock, my partners gloves and some other bits and bobs under the seat. But I really enjoyed having a little bike - and it helped me with getitng over my 'dark dog' as winston churchill would put it. Basically it made me happy which is good when I've been a bit depressed.

The email says:

"You can keep your policy running and change the vehicle it's linked to. We may charge an additional premium if the new vehicle falls into a higher risk category than the old one.

We'll cancel your policy automatically if you haven't changed your vehicle by 15th August. If this happens we won't charge you a cancellation fee."

So if I were to buy another brand new scooter/bike which is the same would I be able to extend my policy without incurring a fee/having to buy a new policy? With cars from distant memory when it's been a write off my policy was cancelled at that point - but here it seems I can stay insured if I get another one.

Cheers

It seems to imply that they'll honour your policy until it expires for a vehicle of equivalent risk but you won't know for sure until you phone them.

I've emailed dealer to see if they will do the same deal as last time. I need the reg at least by the 15th of next month. They now charge delivery fees which they didn't last time so I've asked them to throw that in for free. So I'm being ultra cheeky. I really can't afford this. I have massive other expenses going on at the moment. But it's something I want.

If they will do it at that price I'll call up insurers and see what the score is. My suspicion is that either the dealer will say no (totally understandable) or the insurer will find a way to have my pants down (in which case it's a no for me). But it's worth a shot. I was asking on here as it was something that made me really happy.

They will honour the policy as its just happened to my daughter with Hastings, they wouldn't cover a higher grouped vehicle (car in this particular instance) but were happy to insure an equivalent one till the end of the policy.

Did they charge her much more?

Waiting to hear back from dealership so cant call them yet. More local dealer is 600 quid more expensive for the same bike!

They didn't charge a penny more, but then she is paying £80/month already.

And I was paying 180 for the year so it might be a different story. On the plus side dealership gave offered me the same great price and free delivery. Hunts in Manchester are spot on. Just need to okay it with my partner and I'll be back in action.
