Any BMW.
Plenty of choice, acknowledged the world over as 'the ultimate driving machine', so why ask further? Loads of respect from other road users, though you might need to be a bit hard skinned as some will be so obviously (but understandably) jealous.
Go for it and get a BM.
I happen to know (I'm on good terms with my local dealer sales executives) that there are some good deals around at the mo. In fact, I almost got tempted to upgrade again last week, based on the sales exec's advice about the need to keep my image up to date and he's now crunching some figures for me. As a bonus, you'll also get a massive buzz from knowing you own/drive a BM.

Porsche Cayman. End of thread.
Damn, you beat me to it. Drives very well. Unlike many other cars in this class though it has enough practicality to carry luggage for a weekend away for two people. And comfort for long journeys. And great handling. And £25k will buy you a very good one Magnum 475 said:

Forget £25k. Spend less than £2k on a well sorted RX8. Budget for a rebuild. Job jobbed.
Or just get any renaultsport if you don't mind front wheel drive.
Hmmmm lotus elise/exige or rx8 - tough one!Or just get any renaultsport if you don't mind front wheel drive.

Maybe I am missing something but the RX8 I drove was pretty dull but with v12 lambo fuel economy.
I really enjoyed the one I had, but they're definitely a bit marmite. Going back to a nasty four cylinder engine was a bit of a downer, but I can forgive it for the rest of the package.paulguitar said:

And before anyone else mentions it, all is revealed by reading the posters username backwards.
Good to see the BMW sales 'executive' cliches of 'upgrade' 'image' and 'number crunching' very much alive and well.

There’s a few options based on you fully defining your constants.
Minimum seats
Minimum /maximum age of the car
Your height
Gearbox preference
Expected usage and mileage
How secure from theft does it need to be ?
Seats minimum - 1 (I dont mind)Minimum seats

How secure from theft does it need to be ?
Age, doesnt matter
I'm 5'9
manual preferred but I can do auto if it has paddles
expected 5000miles per annum
doesnt need to be too secure
Thanks for all the recommendations guys, i'm getting a great list of cars to consider

what would you say is better out of the rx-7 and rx-8? I love the looks of the rx7 and I've heard the engine in the rx8 needs changing every 1000 miles Or just get any renaultsport if you don't mind front wheel drive.

< £15K FD2, Caterham, Elise, Cayman, 911
< £20K+ Exige, R26R more porsches
Basically this. Depends on how much you will take it to the track, if at all. If you do then personally i'd discount the Porsches unless you find one that's been well sorted.< £10K DC2, R26/250, VX220, Boxster

If you are doing 5k miles per year i wouldn't consider the rx8, you will rue the fuel costs. It's perfect for a weekend project/track car kind of thing, but for something that's going to get a decent amount of road use it's too expensive to run in reality.
