That merc is really tempting but was not something that was on my radar. I have sent the garage a message to see if they are interested in any negotiations..
Also it has been flagged up that there might be some finance outstanding on it.

Obviously check the finance situation & go from there, that one is nicely spec'd with the Airscarf/Heated Seats & it's also the cheaper road tax.

I have my eye on this one that has just been relisted as it didn't hit its reserve.

It looks fabulous.

Mk3 MR2?
Always preferred the mark 2 but my license would be in jeopardy if i had one of those!
Mk2's aren't really that quick unless you get a turbo. If you can live without the 'leccy roof, then a Mk3 is a good shout, better handling and lighter than an equivalent MX-5.

On the SLK front, we've had two a Mk2 and Mk3, both of them really nice and the usual Merc reliability (didn't personally have any problems with them). They come with all the toys for the age and handle really nicely.

I am going to look at a 2003 SLK 230 later. Is there Anything I should specifically be looking or listening out for?

The mot history looks unremarkable, mainly tyres and lights , it passed the last two without any advisories.

I’d focus on that roof working smoothly, all the gadgets and that the auto box is smooth & responsive. Then just basic used car stuff.

I'd always go for the gen2 model it's better in everyway but if it's a clean rust free car then the 230 is worth a look.

Fun,reliability and cheap parts is more important than top speed, is MX5 the no brainer answer?
Yes. Plenty of other options but none will be as cheap and hassle free to run as an MX5.

Totally agree, look for a gen 2 model, they came in 2004. Your budget would get you a good 6 cylinder car, lovely engines.

I am seeing lots of nice MX5's but the guy who is selling the one i really want has not responded to my request for a viewing (ebay auction). They are top of my list though.

I have to admit, I am not excited by the one i am going to see today so that tells me something. I will have a look, it does look well kept but at 2.5k i am not sure how much of a bargain it really is. The 4k one earlier in the thread was more expensive but seemed like it was worth the extra. That guy didnt respond to my initial approach either. I will keep my eye out for another one.

That's a lovely looking car, but I would be cautious due to it being sold immediately after having had a recon engine fitted. If I had just had all of that work done and the car was sound, I would want to keep it for a lot longer to get some more use and soften the blow of what must have been a big bill.

I know you dismissed the 350z as being a bit boy racer but there is a decent owners forum where the ownership does range across all ages and most are a lot more mature than your average Corsa 1.2 owner, amazing amount of car for the money really.

I know you seem to be going after roadsters but is the drop top driving more important than 2 seats? You could go for a few left field options such as VW Eos, Mini Cooper, BMW 630, Fiat Barchetta (for a bit of an I am not an MX5 statement), Audi TT Mk2, an MG of some description hell even saw a V6 Saab going in that price bracket the other day!

Or maybe really stand out from the crowd https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I have never had a proper two seater so I would like to scratch that itch and I cant remember the last time i had people in the back (actually i can, once in the last two years)

There are so many choices I think i need to try and keep it as simple as possible or i will never make up my mind!

I should really stick with my first thought which was that i have always liked the MX5 and I have never liked big bills and i dont want to be driving everywhere at warp speeds until i clear a few points off my license atleast!

This is quite the MOT fail/pass. Is it really likely that all these issues would have been sorted??

This is the car (my favourite but that list scares me!)

There's a lot there to suggest a neglected car. I'd discard that one.

Agreed, maybe he spent more time making it look nice, he hasn't scrimped on the interior!
