Checkout Giffgaff. I think one text every 6 months keeps them alive. I use them in GSM alarm systems.

hmm they all seem to still require top ups , where the three 123 lasts forever with a min phone call every 6 months

might as well stump up for a cheap 3g phone then

edit cant make much sense of giffgaff site

Just get a basic SIM and put the smallest goody bag on it, non repeating, PAYG.

You don't need to spend each 6 months. Just make a chargeable call or text before 6 months. I.e not to another gift gaff phone (which is free).

Can't help you with the website. That's up to you.

I have been on this package for years. Occasionally o2 call me up to see if they can move me to a different package but they soon realise they are wasting their breath! 20 quid normally lasts me three or four months.

I've got a duel sim phone and purchased a 99p O2 payg sim to see how it worked.

8 months later it still works and have never put a penny on it. Never send from it as its never had money but have used WhatsApp when on wifi to send to myself to see if still working on occasions

Er, if you’re using WhatsApp on WiFi then you’re not using the SIM...
