I'm about to purchase a second hand Mercedes C63 S AMG Premium Plus. It was registered new in May 2019 and due to the emissions for this vehicle, I'm assuming the first year tax paid at registration would have been £2,135.

I will be picking the car up on 3rd February 2020.

My understanding is that for year two onwards, the tax will be £465 per year (£145 + £320) at current VED rates. However, how does this relate to the £2,135 already paid for the first year? I assume the seller will claim a portion of this back, but does that mean I will need to pay the remaining part of the first year tax i.e. a portion of £2,135?

Thanks.

The initial RFL is gone (seller will be refunded partially at the 2nd year rate). You won’t be liable for any of that. You will need to pay the £145 + £320 as you said.

Thanks. Mixed feelings as I'm about to sell my 2007 Jaguar XKR, which is awesome but has seen better days. I am looking forward to owning a modern car :-)
