I’ve done that in the past, in my youth. Never really thought about it then. Wouldn’t do it now!

I hope you & your partner make a swift recovery but you were unlucky I paid 20k cash for a car today with no issue & I bet there were thousands of cash transactions for cars made today with no issues.

I think what we all want to know is just how did this driving instructor meet his fiancée who looks like she only passed her test a few years ago herself...? whistle

I don’t think if ever go to meet a stranger with a big wad of cash on me. Go look at the car if happy go to the nearest bank to get the cash/transfer.

I assume it was the seller who insisted on cash. That in itself would set off alarm bells.

And how did his car lock itself when he was outside and his fiance inside? Is that due to keyless entry?

I can only wish them well to get over this.

We've all seen the too good to be true eBay adverts with a generic email embedded into the image.

It was an 18 plate Merc GLA for £9000. It would be worth double and an obvious scam or knackered car at the very best. I do feel for them though, I've found a lot of friends to be very naive and clueless when buying and selling cars.

Go fund me stands at £170, trying to raise £9000.

If anyone is feeling especially generous and wants to buy these a Merc. Might be tricky finding a £20k car for £9k though.

Ooooops - looks like I was lucky last month when I took £12k in cash to finalise buying my latest toy!

Mind you I had been up to view it 2 days previously so got to assess the seller properly, and a mate who used to be in the car salvage business was with me.

Where I live in Toronto this is not unknown. The police came up with a novel idea. You can arrange to meet at any police station to make the exchange.

If this is true then the alarm bells should've been ringing all day long no one would sell a 20k merc for less than half of it's value.

That's a brilliant idea.

With the ease of on line/app transfers nowadays I just don’t see why people take the risk. I’ve bought/sold about 5 cars in the last few years and not a single penny in cash has been exchanged.

Except most police stations have been shut down, certainly within a 20 mile radius here in Sussex.
