Folks

I appreciate that this question has been asked before, but the ages etc are quite close between the vehicles I’m considering. I’m not after advice as to which brand to buy as I appreciate that these cars are pretty bland as I just want a family car that is economical and reliable. I have been driving an E90 2005 330i for the past four years and although it has been very reliable, my needs and frequency of driving have changed and I subsequently need something more economical. What are your your thoughts between the two vehicles below?

1) Late 2014 Vauxhall Insignia 1998cc CDTI (Facelift) with touchscreen SatNav (high spec) - 130k miles. High spec interior (half leather, massive SatNav/ interface etc). A couple of minor scuffs on the rear bumpers and stone chips . Facelift model (minor differences). Not that keen on the colour. £0 road tax.

Or

2) 2013 Vauxhall Insignia SRI 1998cc CDTI (non-facelift) no SatNav (fairy standard) - 89k miles. Standard SRI interior. It will come with a cam belt/ water pump change and an oil service (usually done at 100k). It has also recently had discs, pads and tires pretty much all round. I prefer the colour to the 2014 and the body work is excellent. £30 road tax

Both vehicles have a fully documented service history and have been extremely well maintained. All scheduled services have been completed and repairs done. They are ex fleet. Neither have ever had any advisories on their MOT.

I’m not hung up on mileage as I have a very limited budget and have spent the last week trailing through cars and MOTs online to narrow a few down and visited (not just Vauxhall’s). I’m being offered an excellent price on both of these and have found nothing else to come close In terms of condition or history. However, there is 40k difference between the two cars. Both the same price. That represents 3 years driving for me.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers
Chuffi

139K miles shouldn't be a problem for a modern diesel with good history.

But it sounds like there are aspects of the earlier lower-mileage car that you prefer - but do you prefer them enough?

Only you can answer that!

Cheers. Gone for the lower mileage one. At 3k, I cannot argue about either!
