I drove a C43 AMG around the Merc track as hard as I could. The rear brakes broke, I shredded the rear tyres, the interior creaked really badly and the control stalks reminded me of something from an Austin Princess. I think they're not as well put together as they were about ten years ago.
Anything else on your short list?

You'd get an RS4/5 and change at that budget. Planted, plenty of power, plenty of space for doggy (RS4) and stuff, they're all good spec and I think look great. It's also a pleasure to drive, though it's more GT than sports car.

If you want more excitement, you'd see yourself in a 410 Exige at that money (they list a whisker over but I'm sure there's wiggle room).

The current 992 I found quite bland, although undoubtedly spectacularly capable. At your mileage the Exige wouldn't be a pain to live with.

Without wanting to upset or troll anyone on here, I am not a massive fan of Aston's sadly.
For the people who may be interested, they were doing MASSIVE discounts when I went looking mid last year. I suspect that's the norm.

A left field choice.

Lexus LC500 is certainly worth a look.

Quite a rare sight on the roads, now down to £50,000

I agree with this - they're really pretty and V8-ey.

No idea if they're any good, mind. laugh

I agree the Exige would be irritating as a daily. What about an Evora? A new 410 of a used 430 GT? I have seen a back to back of the 430 vs. GT3. Gt3,quicker on the straights, caught up every time by the 430 under braking and through corners.

Evora easier to live with than an Exige, but a 410 may be easier than a 430gt.

The infotainment system will drive you nuts, same as an RCF I had.

And they're a bit quiet for a V8.

But everything else is very nice.

And Lexus have great value warranties that you can just keep extending, and includes breakdown cover for two, any vehicle.

Quirky cars, not everyones cup of tea, but a quality thing.

But not raw, or exciting, like an R8 or 911

I'd second the LC500 I explain to people that they're a modern day equivalent of Maser GT:

With your budget you'll be looking at an S Edition 1 AMG GT which are great cars I spent a week driving one in Europe & it never missed a beat even with a bit of ring abuse.

Ferrari 575M a classic that's done all it's depreciating although it won't be cheap to maintain

I think a Jaguar F-Type, possibly in R spec might be worth a look

Although I truly appreciate what Lotus do, the build quality and dated interiors would put me off. I have friends who have had lotus cars over the years, and the reliability and build are just not there yet I think ?? I would possibly have a Cayman GTS (6 cylinder) over the Evora
I am on my second evora as a daily driver, reliability over 70k miles has been fine. A niggle on one A pillar trim fixed for £40 and a door lock servo are the only issues.

As for quality of the interior, have you seen an Evora? See the Harry’s Garage vid on the 410 for his comments he compared it favourably with other marques, and he has plenty of comparables.

The build quality of the AMG was spot on (as you'd expect at this price point) but I have to say that the SLS felt like it was a more quality product but they're really holding their money, the GT is the more resolved steer though.

The LC500 is also a bit special the market is underrating these at the moment so they're still depreciating strongly at the moment but the engine is a peach interior well worthy of comparison & that N/A is a peach & those that I've supplied them to say they get under your skin.

The big surprise is how much the NSX is dropping considering the reviews I thought these would be snapped up but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Or if you can live with LHD then the Mustang GT350 is a great drivers car it's not quite as sweet as the R but who can say no to a Voodoo V8 smile

I just watched the harrys garage video of the 410, and he gives the interior a right kicking as far as I could tell ?? Is this the right one ??

Mainly the heater controls and storage. He likes the materials and the way it’s put together if I remember correctly

With respect - you're comparing whats arguably not even a full blown AMG variant of a C Class to an AMG GT??

confused

Sadly not, the infotainment is an old Alpine unit and he says that at that price point, it simply should be better. It has an old key that has to be inserted and then push a button ?? Why ?? If the keys already in the hole, why not just continue to turn it, whats the point of a separate button ?? The heater controls are from 1985, there's no storage at all except a glove box, the front boot does not open and the rear boot is too small. It does not even have gas struts for the tail and uses a hooked bar that I have not seen on a car since God was a nipper.

I have no doubt its a great drivers car and goes like a stabbed rat, but I would rule it out solely on lack of creature comforts, storage space and to my eyes, that interior looks a long way behind the modern German stuff. A great car Lotus, but at over 80k new and used prices still high, I just can't see the quality.
Some comments.

The Alpine unit is a current one
Agree re the key and button start
You need a 400 for more storage the 410 is stripped out like a GT3.
There is no front boot, it’s aero channels just a small access panel for washer and brake fluid
The boot takes a carry on bag/case, he demonstrates that, the space behind the seats takes lots of stuff. I have had 4 20 inch wheels and tyres in mine.
Boot struts is part of being stripped out. 400 has gas struts.
Agree the interior is less anodyne than modern German stuff.

I had similar thoughts and then I drove one. At that point the others I was looking at 911, Cayman, R8, V8v, Maserati had no chance.

I guy that you find interiors and tech etc important, that’s fine, each to his own. But as a drivers car that’s useable as a daily, very little offers the driving experience. For me the interior being different adds to the sense of occasion.

I currently have a similar budget to you, and am looking. So far the 410 sport is trumping pretty much everything else although a Ferrari 430 is tempting but as a daily a bit risky on cost and depreciation.

This will be my only car, so the Evora just can't cut it for me. I get its a great driver's car but for me, it has to be able to do everything, which includes the points I've kind of hit on.
Fair enough. My forever car, is one that I will still enjoy when I am older, and I know what that is

Ferrari 575m in grigio with burgundy leather.

But it’s a GT car and I’m no ready for that. But they are stunning.

I wasn't comparing the two DT, merely giving my opinion of what I thought about the C43. I haven't driven the AMG GT so don't have an opinion of it. smile
