Bloody hell. They were valuing our M140i at £18,000 a week ago.

Now up to £19,135.
That's only to entice you in so they can bud you down to £18k
Oh i know. Though at £18K they'd have chipped me back to £17K.

Its really just a baseline indicator of where the market is at.

No intentions of selling it or taking it anywhere near them if i was.
How would they manage to “chip” you back £1k unless it was dog rough?

Prices at BCA must surely be at an all-time high. I went after a number of cars last week and watching other things in between, I’ve never seen such sky-high prices and that was across the board. I had all sorts on my hit list from a Peugeot 107 to a Nissan GT-R and all went over by huge percentages.

In my experience they don't really chip that much if y9u have been honest about condition. I 5hink a.lpt 9f people who complain just see the headline figure they offer and fail to complete the optional section after where you lost the vehicle specifics about damage etc.

I've sold one car to them.no issues a couple of years ago and I'm planning on taking another one there next month if everything else falls into place.

Edit- I know I could probably get another £1000 or so selling private but I really can't be bothered with all the tyre kickers and people offering me half advertised price etc.

They can’t “chip” what’s not there!

Realistically - they wouldnt. Maybe a bit but if the car is well described they have nothing to chip you back on. They have to find genuine reason from their guidelines as to why the price needs to be redone. Also they do redo the valuation - they dont just come up with a random figure to knock off subsequently.

I met an old colleague (Car Salesman from years ago) who worked for WBAC a few years back. His one single goal was to chip everyone £400 and complete the deal.

Just checked my 2017 Civic Type R, mega low mileage, £21K - I suppose that is OK?

My (single) experience of these guys was that chipping and BS was part of the process. Guy looked round the car and announced that the best he could do was £x (being about £400 less than the original valuation). When presented with the quote he went into full pantomime mode “oh I am sorry sir, there must have been a problem with the system. I will note your complaint with the office”. When then shown a similar decent valuation from a competitor he then said the real issue was that he was concerned about the (complete) service record - “why would a six year old car need servicing so often if it drove ok sir?”.
He should have left with a black eye but my other half insisted I accepted the chip. Not that I’m still bitter about it or anything! ;-)
I may well be wrong, but ever since, I’ve always assumed that unless you are selling at a time when they’re desperate for stock there’ll be an attempt to chip, irrespective of the condition of the car.

I’m looking to sell soon so have checked WBAC. There is nowhere to describe the condition of the car, you just input the reg and mileage and they give you a price.

I also ran a part ex Price from a local dealer against a car I’m interested in and it was very similar to WBAC.

Sadly the price offered is IMO very low. If I search autotrader for a car similar to mine the nearest example is listed at around 60% more money. I’m in no rush so I will be selling privately.

Anyone had any experience selling through Arnold Clarke?

Quick valuation on basic reg check likely to be chipped away at as discussed about WBAC?

I've been looking to buy an Audi TT. Spent the last week looking and everything I've chased has been sold. Finally found a nice one in Scotland that I know through family and the owner has said business has gone bat st crazy over the last couple of weeks. He's never seen anything like it.

I was on their website earlier this week and in the page where they give the price theres a further link to click where you can edit the details of the car. That then gives you the option to edit service history, number of keys and add any damage on. This was using a desktop computer.

Yes and the same link is on mobile. It’s not as obvious as it used to be because like said above you have to find it after you have the price and then make the adjustment

I sold my car to Arnold Clarke. Completely flawless sale. Very easy and pleasant at the Milton Keynes branch. Sold at the price seen online (I was honest about condition etc.)

Edit to add: the guy there said they were doing slightly higher purchase prices at that time because they were running low on stock, so makes sense that YMMV depending on their desire to buy at that time.

LOL I was toying with upgrading to an 840- after the 840i lease thread.

On 22/02 I got a value for my M140 of £19,210... just done it now, £11,185!!!
Yeah similar here . Ours is a 2019 car and thats the sort of figures we are seeing - and thats before they'd knock off £££s for microscopic stone chips they've found, marks on alloy wheels, etc.
Mines a 2017 but quite low mileage, back up to £18,350 on Friday.

I'm trying to sell my car (jag xe s). Was quoted a smidge under £17k in Feb. Immediately before lockdown they were offering £10k.

No offering just under £16k.

Been offered £19500 for my 2018 440i GC with 25k on the clock. That's more than 60% of its value lost in 2 years and average mileage rage

Not a chance - I'll just VT it in Sept if I want to change, just like the supplying dealer suggested laugh

Value I’d used cars not what it was due to pandemic shocker. Why is anyone really surprised at the values they are getting.

Depends if you're reading "its value" as actual price paid or list price. I took it as actual price paid.
