5 grand for a second car
Discussion
Hi all,
So I use a daily shed for work which gets a good beating but is a very solid and reliable Audi A3 1.9 tdi. >2k in value.
I am itching for a weekend petrol toy to use and enjoy, I enjoy driving so looking for something for B roads which I can use and get a good driving experience from,
From what I have read an mx5 is the go to, does anyone have any other suggestions ? Happy to stretch a bit and go over if need to on budget, only requirement really is would prefer something fairly sporty, if I can get 4 seats great, otherwise 2 seats not too much of an issue. Would also prefer tax to be under the 200 a year region really, was looking at a few nissans and tax was nearly 500:O which I could not justify,
Thanks for any help

The obvious MX-5 alternatives are the MR2 Mk3 (AW111) and the MGF
Stretch the budget a bit and you might find an early Boxster, which takes it up a class in performance.
Edit: For cars from 2001-2017, road tax depends on CO2 (which is the same as saying it depends on fuel consumption). However, up until 23rd March 2006 the top rate was capped at 225 g/km, so you only pay a max of £330 pa regardless of how thirsty the car is. After that it can go up to currently a top rate of £580 for gas-guzzlers like the 350Z.

I know it's £325 road tax but I'd really take a look at a 350Z
