That's absolutely fine, no issues with that whatsoever.

Paying £3k more because you're being bid off the wall is not ok.
No one is forcing you to keep bidding.

I was high bidder at an auction of theirs for an X3. It ran rough, was down on power and smoked like hell. But I was able to reject it without
issue.

They're BCA cars, a lot of them will be fine, but some will be dogs... at least you get a test drive before buying.

Check out who won this one.

Then look to see who won the relisted item. Same bidder.

Wonder why he wanted to pay more for the same car scratchchin
Haha that car had been on my watch list for some time. I was genuinely interested in it but they refused to answer some of my questions and rather I travel 200 miles to view it or just bid on it as is

They often advertise cars that are at BCA before they've even been sold at auction using BCA's photos. A mate of mine sells some of his part exes through BCA using their Partner Finance scheme and sure enough, when checking out of curiosity what other examples were selling for, he stumbled across his own part ex being advertised by this outfit in Reading on eBay while the car was still waiting to be auctioned at BCA.

In the end a couple of us bid the car up on eBay very high and sent lots of messages asking about the car. When we inquired about viewing it, we were told it was "awaiting preparation".

My mate attended the auction the day it was being sold to see who was bidding, but the car sold to a very keen net bidder (who I may or may not have been bidding against). Probably just as well they weren't there in person, as the car ran like a bag of nails.

The car sold at BCA for well above the reserve Jon set and a couple of days later we were receiving phone calls and emails from No Reserve Reading saying that the car was available to view. On their eBay listing, the BCA photos had been swapped for their own, though they hadn't bothered to remove the bar-code sticker off the windscreen.

Suffice to say we didn't follow up on our inquiries and the car was on their eBay account for a long time, constantly being relisted (presumably due to shill-bidding).
This story fills me with joy.

These guys are local to me so I've been aware of them for about 10 years.

The operating model is simple... buy a car at BCA auctions, add their percentage, and shill bid it to their percentage. If it sells for more then it goes, if it doesn't they relist until they get their money.

When I first spotted them I actually reported them to Ebay and trading standards as they weren't quite so transparent in what they were doing back then. But their listing now makes it obvious that they are NOT a main dealer, do not expect showroom LOL. However, they also will NOT pressure sell or hold a winning bidder to account if they turn up and don't like the car, for any reason.

I have only actually ever 'won' 1 car of them. Last year I bought an XF as I wanted something for motorway commuting. I went down after winning the auction , walked into the office and was handed the keys to go and have a look. No hassle, no checks, here's the keys.

The car was high mileage and obviously an auction standard car. Tired, but not well tyred. smile. It worked, but the boot would'nt open, the passenger window wouldn't work, the tyres all needed replacing and the brakes/pads looked like they'd need replacing soon. All in all it needed about 1k spending to get it sorted. It was still a cheap motor though compared to other sources, just not as cheap as I'd hoped it would be.

As I was considering it, my decision was made for me when one of the site monkeys reversed a Range Rover into the back wing and creased it in, whilst I was sat in the car. smile

I just got out and left it. I handed the keys to the monkey and wandered off.

Would I bid again? I would, but I'd go down beforehand and check the cars out first. Some of their stock looked OK'sih, some looked very tired as you'd expect with auction motors. I quick 5 minute look over their stock before bidding would pretty quickly let you know if it was worth it.

Reading is a bit too far for me just to have a look, I'd have to be pretty sure it was what I wanted.

If you're local then it's not too bad as stuff does sell cheap ish even with their BCA + markup.

They don't even try to hide the shill bidding, from what I can tell they only use about 3 different accounts to do it.

Surely the alternative is to go direct to BCA....but then when/if it won't go out of second you won't get much response from BCA.

I have no idea if they run cars up but I can tell you 100% every single car auction does so no different really.

It seems ebay has had a bit if an update.

You can now report listings that are shill bidded, wonder if they'll actually do anything to repeat offenders.

It's also more clearly indicated when people bid and how much.

Why do you care ? Genuine question, if I bid on something & the price goes past the price I want to pay I stop, also if someone is bidding against me I don't care if the bid is real or not as I've already decided what I want to pay.

Because it's dishonest.

It's a minor thing but it's underhand and I really hate s that try to take advantage of other people.

He deserves a little bit of pushback.

He's not going to sell at a loss I'm pretty sure most people go in with their eyes open & know what's going to occur & people are getting decent deals.

Ebay is full of people doing exactly the same thing be it cars or coats it's not going to stop so just let it go.

If he's not happy with letting them go too cheap there's a perfectly good system available to put a reserve on.

He doesn't do that because a) that costs more in listing fees and b) no reserve auctions tend to go higher.

Are you going to do the same for all the other no reserve auctions that are doing the same thing?

You probably know the one, they auction their cars with no reserve, they're based in Reading.

They often have stuff in that interests me, it'll usually be something decidedly ropey and with a v10 engine.

I'm fairly sure they bid up their own stuff based on the number of times cars tend to cycle through and some of the comments on their negative feedback. Cars always reach roughly the same.

Guessing most of their stock is stuff no one bid on at BCA auctions.
Warning ... thread resurrection....

I have to admit to having bought one of their cars back in October. No horror story. Has been a nice car that is worth more on WBAC now than what I paid for it.

My opinion CWNR did shill the life out of their stock, up to whatever they paid for it, plus a margin for them.

But I now come to look again for a potential purchase and they are no longer on the Bay. What happened ? Anyone know the story ?

They seem to have disappeared again.

I'd noticed they'd had a lot less stock recently, 50 or so cars instead of 200ish.
