Hi all

I'm looking to sell my current RX7 to move to a car that is:

- More powerful, looking at around 300 bhp per tonne
- Noiser, thinking V6 / V8 sound
- More raw
- Convertible or Coupe
- Looks good (subjective I know)
- RWD
- Manual

I'm basically looking for an involving drivers car and I've narrowed it down to 3, weirdly all British

- TVR T350
- Noble M12
- Lotus Exige S3

Discounted: BMW Z4M

Which do you think would be best? Any other cars that would fit the bill?

In theory in ticks all the boxes but they really don't do it for me, too barebones and I just don't like the look at all!

Good suggestion all the same

The lotus is by far the most developed car so will be more reliable and robust, and there will be a much smaller variation among the ones you try in how they drive.

If I was happy to do some spannering and just use the car for local fun driving, the first two would be considered. But for something to just drive, for road trips and track days and everything else (especially if you have a passenger), the exige is way out in front of the others, for me at least.

It wouldn't be my 1st choice, and its auto, but for the sake of adding alternatives, I just love the look of the alfa 4c.

Will surely hold its price too?

As a fellow RX-7 owner I'm interested in this, always interesting to consider what alternatives there might be

If you'd consider LHD, maybe Corvette C6 Z06, 505hp, 1420kg (355 hp/tonne), £36k

I've had my M12 since 2006, it's brilliant and easy to look after. Never any trouble, smiles per mile hard to beat.

Has to be the C6 Z06 Corvette they're a cracking steer & the potential of that 7.0 V8 is unlimited, even in standard fettle they're a proper drivers car.

I loved driving my uncles, I used to enjoy driving it & always felt it was an epic steer that was until my uncle bought a GT350R.

Thanks all some really interesting suggestions!

Rocketeer MX5, interesting idea and I'm a big fan of the MX5 but not quite right.

Tuscan S I would discount purely because I don't like the look of it, that's why the T350 is on the list

Cayman R hmm, I had a 987 S and really liked it but definitely not raw, I assume the R is by Porsches standards but is it really raw and much different to a 987 S? They are 2-3x the price of a normal 987 which puts me off.

Alfa 4C, can't decided whether I like the look. Particularly as the number plate does really seem to look good anywhere on the front, also don't like the idea of a small turbo engine or auto.

Corvette not sure about the look of of it would be an involving drive? LHD kills it for me too.

Keep them coming!

It's increasingly looking like the noble. My dad also had one when I was a kid and I loved it so it has the nostalgia factor too.

Not driven a T350 or an Exige. I have a Chimaera, over 340 bhp/tonne, owned ten years...

So can't help much with comparisons but I did test drive this a few years back...

Awesome piece of kit, and I'd have one tomorrow if it wasn't for the fact that I don't want to part with either of my current toys.

Pretty much everything about it ticked all the boxes.....

Here's another:

Edited to add, my first car was a Lotus 7, whole different ethos to the three cars in your first post smile

Yep, Noble for me all day long, look stunning, rare as rocking horse st and noise from the turbo's when you shift up is intoxicating. I drove one on one of those supercar experience days and it was and is probably the best car I've driven (this was on a day where I also drove my dream car (at the time) of a Diablo SV).

Likewise, 4 TVR’s over 8 years and now 2 Nobles over 15.....
