Looking at changing wife’s car as RR evoque she’s had for 9 years is starting to feel it’s age. I know they have their haters but it’s been one of the best cars we’ve had. Totally reliable, unstoppable in all weathers Scotland can throw at it, comfortable and well equipped. The only negatives are. Manual gearbox is a bit on the agricultural side, boot too small, software looking dated. We also have a new Labrador so need something to cater for her, and I’d prefer something mid sized, hatch or estate, 4wd preferable though haven’t discounted 2wd and fitting crossclimates or the like. 25k max, prefer less than 3yo, prefer petrol.

Looked at so far
BMW M140 ( know it’ll be a bit small but had one before on a cheap lease and would love another)
BMW 3 series touring
Audi A4
Skoda Octavia (mainly previous gen but can just squeeze to new model)
Volkswagen Golf (1.5 150, though GTI and R in contention)
Ford Focus estate (1.5, though can just about stretch to ST)
Seat Leon Tourer (seems to be a model change around 2019 - some 1.8s some 2.0s)
Volvo V60
Peugeot 308 SW (1.6 GT, left field choice)

Any opinions or other options I’m missing?

There's a lot of V90CC T5s coming off lease now, which are in budget.

You'd get a Cupra ST 4Drive with plenty of change, fast, discreet, not involving at all but would probably tick a lot of boxes

Oof that’s a lot of car for the money!! I am more interested in a size smaller but wouldn’t discount that

I have a couple of those on my watchlist. Head says I should go for the seat 180-190hp models but tempted with the STs, GTIs, Rs, M140s

The 4Drive was a lot quicker on country roads than the M135i it replaced but a lot less fun

I shall be one of the lease returners, added a few months due to COVID. Cracking car, extra clearance gives it some decent off roadong capability. Ours has been all over down lanes and tracks a normal car wouldn't. I'm 6'4" and it's massively comfortable on long trips.

2 things that put me off owning. Economy is pretty ste in the T5 we've averaged 27 mpg. Not sure what the tax would be on one of these having leased I'll have to look. Defiantly recommended given your brief.

You can get mk3.5 focus st estates for just under 20k.
Ours was just under 3 years old when we bought it. It only had 16k mileage on it so barely run in.
