Swift sport, £3k budget
Discussion
Afternoon all. I've previously posted about potentially having to replace the OH's X plate Polo at some point. It appears that time has come, having just got home after being broken down on Dartmoor with an unhappy 3 year old in tow, in said polo.
Its just last month had a new MOT, having spent £250 odd on a few bits, but need something more reliable now.
Previous recommendations for my approx £3k budget have been plentiful and appreciated, but I am almost dead set on a swift sport 1.6 vvti, seems to tick all the boxes.
This would seem to get me somewhere between 2008-2011 ish. Have seen a couple which look decent for nearer £2k, but with 100k on the clock.
I wonder if anyone could tell me of any known issues I should be looking for, or to check if they have been done already? Would 100k put you off if the history looked ok?
As always, very much appreciate any help. Cheers.

With your budget the Swift Sport is a very good picks with no real downsides apart from the slightly short gearing making a bit of a chore on longer runs.
As long as it's been looked after then 100k isn't a problem but (also receipts are everything) budget for having to refresh the suspension at some point but you can get some sensible low mileage examples for your budget:

I would absolutely not be bothered by a higher mileage SSS. Testament to their solid build Rent 4 Ring retired a ZC31S SSS a good few years ago with something like 270k miles driven by many different folks around the Nurburgring with varying degrees of mechanical sympathy.
The car had been regularly serviced and only additional parts had been if I recall correctly a wheel bearing, clutch and exhaust and not much else.
That said I think the standard interior can wear a little particularly the seat bolsters on higher mileage cars.
My wife's SSS maybe for sale soon at around 68k miles, silver 2 owners, loads of history, pretty much fully stamped book. PM if interested.

I'm also looking for similar. But, looking at the MOT history on many examples, most of them seem to have greased up brake pipes, and the start of underbody corrosion. Every one also have a bad history of tyre and brake pad wear!
I'm upping my budget to just over £4k as the brake and rust problems don't seem have started yet.
I appreciate that may be above your budget, but worth thinking about.
A 5 door may also be better for you as the rear seats split 60/40, whereas the whole of the seat back folds in the 3 door.

Tyre & brake pad wear are consumables at 10 years old you'd expect a bit of surface corrosion the Japanese aren't renowned for underbody sealant.

Afternoon all. Just wanted to check before posting a link... It's not considered in any way 'bad form' to post a link to a car someone has for sale privately, to ask opinions on it?
Just thinking it risks giving the seller the hump if the comments aren't good! I'm overthinking it I'm sure!
Cheers all

The front tyres had an advisory so put onto the rear to extend their life.....
And shorten the life of the driver!
Other than replacing those sharpish it looks fine to me. Keep in mind the swif sport has an odd tyre size so they're actually quite expensive.

Haha... That did seem an odd one to me, but thought it looked decent besides that. Thanks for the advice 👍
Just a thread update... Thanks for all the tips. 5 hour train journey at silly o'clock tomora morning to pick up an SSS. Spec exactly what I was looking for, did involve a quite significant budget creep.... Man maths won the day. Don't they always??
Will post pics after the 5 hour drive home. Happy Friday!
