On another forum, I was almost banned, because I took the piss out of someone that was obviously (in hindsight) dyslexic. Are you ?
There's alot of people out there who struggle with predictive texting. But its things like "needed replacing" being reframed as "need replaced" which, when I'm feeling gammon like, boils my own piss, and makes me want to take the piss. But having had warnings, I tend to keep quite. If I understood what you meant to say, then its good enough.
But I can see why you'd be upset, by that. You should report that post and get him banned.
In all seriousness though, if I'd have been treated like that by a garage, and they came back later to try to do the deal, I'd ask for another £2k off. It's just a car. There's a glut of used cars sitting on airfields all over the country, so they should be cheaper. Right ?
And then you typed "alot." Two words, not one. The current trend of joining words together is massively annoying. Alot, abit etc. I don't know where it's come from. My experience of buying from dealers is that there is rarely any movement on the price ... Private sales are another matter, I usually expect a decent chunk off the asking price.
Why do you expect money off. Are people supposed to add a grand or two to the price just so they can drop it to make the buyer happy? OllieJolly said:

The car [was] advertised for too much money so I offered £2000 less for the vehicle and he went crazy. He told me it was worth the full asking price all day long. I told him that it was not due to the alloys all needing [to be] refurbished, front brakes needing [to be] done and also the tyres all needing [to be] replaced.
Christ that annoys me... sorry Alan, I don't mean to pick on you personally but I'm seeing more and more of this recently and it's really difficult to read without it bothering me. Yes, I need a life. "Don't post if you don't have anything constructive to say" well, I do, so here:You have to be realistic, if the car is genuinely overpriced by 2k ie selling on other for forcourts for 2k less than you have a valid point.
I managed to get 900 off my last car purchase which was up for 20k. Wasn’t particularly overpriced and it needed absolutely nothing. After going back and forth we agreed the deal and everyone was happy. I also got a new battery for £200 on warranty a few days after, so there down 1100. This is was at bmw dealer, absolutely brilliant to deal with
On the other hand, I offered £600 less for a 135i that needed a major service and 4 new tyres and was told to go away, private deal too!
It is difficult not to insult at times, but with covid I feel it’s a buyers market when spending a large chunk

When exactly did this happen?
Car dealerships have been closed for weeks under the current lockdown. Only available for click and collect as far as I knew?
If it was last year then it's unlikely that car will still be for sale surely.
I don't know about him dodging a bullet, the OP's certainly dodged this point a few times.Car dealerships have been closed for weeks under the current lockdown. Only available for click and collect as far as I knew?

OP didn't say he was buying from a Merc main dealer, just a "reputable chain" didn't he? Which in my experience, if the wheels aren't absolutely knackered they'll give them a clean and throw it on the forecourt especially since its "just" a diesel A class? Similar with the tyres, if they're a few mm above the wear markers a dealer isn't going to do them or knock money off them them needing to be done. Brakes - if a car is on a forecourt how can you really tell the brakes need doing? Unless it was flagged on the last MOT?
I kind of agree with you OP that the salesman shouldn't have had a wobbler just because you went in with the offer you did. Surely they'd expect an offer and have a small amount of wiggle room? I'd just give up on the car and look for another, it doesn't sound like you're suddenly going to get any joy from them...
+ all the stuff about lockdown and car buying that has been mentioned.

A small update on the matter.
Today the salesman phoned me again and actually apologised for the way they treated me. I accepted this as he did not need to apologise. He explained to me that they could not go as low as I am asking but can meet me in the middle and gives me a free service when it’s due as a good will gesture. The only stipulations are I need to deal with the alloys myself but they will change the front brakes.
I thanked the salesman for his offer but decided to decline as I felt that this particular dealership were not worth buying from.
At this point the salesman got annoyed again and told me he had really fought my corner with the sales manager. He also said that he pulled out all the stops and had a hard time convincing the manager. My reply was “look son, it’s a buyers market and I won’t let you force me into a car purchase. I am not a pushover and if you contact me again I will sleep with your wife”. Needless to say the phone line dropped

Wind up from the start.
It didn't happen. OP knew he was rumbled when folk became suspicious of him rocking up as he claims to have done
Funny in parts but not funky levels of inventiveness

Grow up
I got a laugh out of it that’s all I care about. My car search continues I 100% agree with anyone who already called bullst on this and I think you confirmed it by refusing to link to the car in question, which doesn't exist.
What an odd thread, what motivates someone to make up such a pointless and ultimately uninteresting story and then go to the effort of posting and arguing about it on here?
Have you been furloughed for months and gone stir crazy?
