A diesel Berlingo or Partner Teepee. Totally unremarkable, but not too bad to drive, very little to go wrong, and can double up for tip/DIY shed runs.

Unremarkable you say?

Easy. Nissan Juke.

You would have to pay someone to nick one of those.
The styling is hardly invisible! The Juke polarises opinion into the love it and hate it camp and because of that it is on the radar.

My advice - anything Jap. Most people can't tell a Hyundai from a Toyota. For example if you look at a Subaru Justy (which is also a Daihatsu Sirion and a Perodua), no-one knows what the Subaru badge is without S U B A R U lettering.

Yep, mk2 Focus would be ideal.

Cheap to run, cheap parts, any garage can fix them and look quite smart if not totally anonymous.

Get a zetec at a minimum spec wise and you’ll be onto a winner.

I'd say Hyundai i20 or i30.

They tend to be better looked after than Ford's and Vauxhall's as often bought by elderly people. You'd get a 2009 with decent miles of either for 2k and the 100bhp 1.4 engine is fine. Looks are really bland.

We run a Mk2 Focus estate with the 2.0 Peugeot diesel engine.

It’s 15 years old, has done 190,000 miles and still drives well.

Perfect tip/pub motor.

2002 VW Polo, Mk6 Fiesta, Mk4 golf.

All cheap to repair / bombproof and utterly invisible.

Daughter has a 2010 Fiesta Diesel in student Liverpool and after 2 years, so far, so good!
Her best mate has a Polo in the equivalent in Bristol.

Both seem like a good test of invisibility!?

How about a 2005-12 Honda Civic?

Very reliable, not a bad steer, loads of space (especially with the "magic" folding seats)

No scrotes will be interested in it - and even the 1.8 petrol will average 40-42mpg.

I'm sorry. I've done a very bad thing.

I've ignored you all and ignored everything I know to be true and bought a specced up 2.0 petrol Citroen C4. I was starstruck by the amount of unnecessarily complicated electronic things to go wrong, coupled with the stupid fixed centre steering wheel for so little money.

Next week, "How to fix XXXXX on a Citroen C4" laugh

Alfa 147 reliable & smart enough that the OH will be happy to drive & because it's an Alfa people will assume it's broken down.

I didn't look properly and I actually really want this... Might have to let the dealer down on the C4. Argh, decisions, decisions...
