A panda 4x4 of any age will hop over all that like a mountain goat. The car of choice in mountainous regions of France and Italy. Go for a cross if you want extra protection and off road ability.
Panda wouldn't climb the rocky 1 in 2.5 sections though. A 2014 Land Rover 90 JUST made it today. In low ratio 4wd first gear. Panda would be toast.

I was going to suggest a tank or an armoured personnel carrier but I see someone's already linked to similar winkbiggrin

Will you AirBnB the place?
AirLiftBnB? Transition day would be like the Fall of Saigon.
Serious question OP - has the house previously been let as a holiday let?

My wife and I were looking at accommodation in Skye a couple of years ago and came across a cottage described as the perfect getaway - no mobile phone signal, no wifi, no power - you drove and met someone in your car, who then took you to the house in their 4x4. They provided a CB radio and it stated you'd have to check in daily to let them know all was ok.

Same place I wonder?
Nope. Never been let. Was empty 12 years. Then part refurbished.

2 miles of road improvement would cost countless thousands. I want the access road to stay impassable to 99% of people. The idea is for it to be one of the very few places on Skye not jammed full of cars, motorcycles and caravans. Traffic and tourism has rocketed the past decade or 2. This place needs to stay in the middle of nowhere. Idyllic. I want Eagles and Dolphins not people!

You'd be surprised, especially by an old one. They weigh bugger all, and are remarkably effective off road.

It's ground clearance and less aggressive tyres that's their weak point.

I watched a programme where a new panda destroyed a defender on an off road course, climbed a section that looked like a cliff. They are rated really highly but I have no first hand experience to be fair.

Have a look on Auto trader Farm

Possibly a John Deere or Polaris might work.

Makes sense, but a blob of tarmac or two on the worse bits might help you out (and is far enough away from the main road so Joe Public won't see it).

I was on Skye about 5 6 weeks ago, was lovely and quiet smile

Have fun whatever you do :beers:

If you end up with a Jeep, Jimmy, Hilux, Land Rover, etc a rear diff lock (if not already fitted) will really help on loose rocks like that. Front and rear diff locks will help even more.

Panda ground clearance would worry me. 60 or so bhp would concern me too. In fairness I've only owned a Panda 100hp which was fun. I can only reiterate that the track is truly horrible in parts. Steep and full of boulders.

Wee review for you to read. Panda has crawler first gear and hill descent!! http://www.greenmotor.co.uk/2014/10/fiat-panda-cro...

Edit, like you, I'd prefer a 4.0 wrangler, been trying to buy my mates for years now!!

Although a bit expensive to ruin!.

Could you get a few tons of hardcore and spread it over the bumpier sections to smooth it out a bit?

A boat such as a rib may be more comfy and easier than the track. Weather is going to make access by car or boat tough at times, but your idyl is not the worst place to be stranded. Enjoy!

If it has to be a car, get the dealer to let you have an extended test drive ;-)
