Take a good look at the 370Z:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107054...

I have to say the SLK55 is a cracking choice & a great hotrod:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107124...

Now if you can haggle hard & stretch the budget by a healthy amount then a C6 Corvette is a great fillet ti the VX220:

Some good shouts there. Not doing the 370 having already had a 350 and not a big enough difference for me.

Quite feel the urge for a V8 though!

Got a Qashqui for the run around jobs, but when on road trips etc. VX is tough work and takes the edge off the enjoyment when you are not enjoying the driving and sat on busy A roads and motorways. Ive had 5 years total VX ownership so done my dues there. Im also approaching 50 and could do with something a bit more livable.
So something a little more comfy and a little less fun?

Do it for sure! thumbup

I've really enjoyed the V8's that I've had over the years. cloud9

The V8 in the E92 M3 fell a touch short for me(I prefer V8's with a bit of torque), but the V8 in the Cerbera and the X5 4.8iS were tremendous I thought. smokin

The tvr “I’m not playing anymore and going to just inexplicably breakdown” attitude worries me lol

Could I stretch to a Maserati Gran Turismo …

biggrin

Those RCZ R's have always done really well in the reviews I've read on them. A rare car too.

If you want an under the radar V8 that has pretty much no borkage that goes well & is a nice place to be (especially if you add an xpipe) then the E500 Coupe is a very good option.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202106214...

Now if you want to roll first class then the 4.7TT V8 CL500 (a remap will see these close to 63AMG power) is the pick the interior is a step above everything listed so far but it;s a full fat GT car which may be a step to far:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202103190...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107114...

Somewhere in the middle of the Maser GT & the CL above sits the XKR which is a very good option they drive well, go even better & you can still get one for decent money:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202106143...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107094...

As good as the above are it'd be the C6 (if haggling & budget allow) as they're an engaging car with a very good chassis, or back on budget it would be the SLK55, that red one is a wheel refurb (back to the original diamond cut) from looking like a stunner.

So I am narrowing it down to

SLK55
BMW Z4M
Audi TT RS (possibly?)
and the Peugeot RCZ R

You want that GranTurismo mate. They look awesome, sound awesome. Really special cars. If not quite as fast as the headline figures suggest. It's a big old lump I think.

from my own perspective, these are all in a manner of speaking warmed over cars that are only identifiable to a petrolhead and not unusual enough for somebody who wants to be different.

Certainly the Z4m / TT RS and RCZ a can at a glance appear to be a shopping variant.

the SLK looks quite demure still but the noise of that V8 easily identifies it as something a bit more special.

Yeah agreed, I guess I want something rarer but something that isn't beating me to death like the VX is at the moment. Its hard because the VX is a driving experience like no other, such a visceral epic drive, but it is exhausting and I am getting more to the point that I have been there done it and can give my body a break for a bit!

V8 SLK55 is very tempting...

depending how things fly with work next year I'll be in a similar position albeit not coming from a VX220 so I wont miss that raw visceral drive. I look at the market and sigh as there is very little out there now that's truly something different. May well look at classics given i havea bike, a camper and the wifes car.

I have a bike for that connected visceral, out in the breeze feeling...£15k would certainly sort toy out with almost any bike you like and a license/gear.
