The HPI is clear except for a logbook loan from April this year which rings an alarm bell, you need a letter showing full clearance of this before you part with any money!

It has Vienna leather, pano roof and Nav so the spec is ok.

Most Golf R’s will have had a bit of a hard life, so check tyres/brakes and the history for oil changes and gearbox/haldex oil changes.

A log book loan secured on a car would put me right off.

There's far too many dodgy Golf R out there. I would be paying for an inspection if you're going to buy one.

Water pumps are a weak point on the earlier mk7 golf ea888 engines so check that’s not leaking.

I would bet that the haldex pump is either dead or blocked so give it some beans from standing. If it wheelspins away like a hooligan then the haldex 4wd isn’t working. It could just need an oil change and the gauze filter cleaning, but it’s also possible the pump has died if the filter has been blocked for some time. Pumps aren’t hideously expensive but you need VCDS to be able to prime it if replacing.

Also the air con can also fail. If a DSG check it’s been serviced at 40k/4 years. This is important it’s done on time.

Plus as above be careful it’s not been ragged around

MOT history below, has it had new front tyres since MOT? Not sure where this 'loose sound deadening material' is but if it was just a clip or two you'd get it done for the cost of a couple of quid. I'd maybe ask because want to check it's not something as a result of accident damge (probably fine but worth asking question).

Someone more techy than me can help as to whether that distorted wheel is an issue...

In good news, guess it's had new rear tyres in last couple of years smile

Agree with others, a log book loan would be a real worry - if that's the only source of credit then has car been skimped on? Only you'll know answer to that based on service history?

This one sounds like it’s worth avoiding for more than one reason.

Save of the day by The Rotrex Kid with that HPI check.

The last time I Hpi checked a car that was on with log book loans it came up as "alert" with the check.

Log book loans called me shortly afterwards whilst the customer was still with me, so Hpi must have given them the info along with my phone number.

Does this still happen?

Or was my experience a one off?

Depends on the lender, you have to register it on the alert register for this to happen which lots just don't bother with.

My first thought was that it could just be stocking finance but it's a 48 month term so it's not that.

I’ve just contacted the seller, and he said he will clear the outstanding finance before I pay him and send me confirmation. that it has been paid in full. Also said I can ring them before I pay him.

Has full log book, full service history from VW

Has had gearbox/hadlex done at 46,000 miles

And last service was 21/10/2020.

What do you think lads

I think you're trying to convince yourself it's a good buy despite it having bodywork damage (why hasn't this been sorted) and evidence of a hard life from the MOT history.
The logbook loan just screams that it's been maintained on a budget despite FVWSH.

Sounds like it's being advertised a bit cheaper than other ones but IMO it will cost more in the long run.

Avoid it, it’s a common car and there are better ones out there. This one’s been run and driven by someone who can’t afford it.

Ah thankyou.

I'll guess then that the customer had a recent history of trying to offload and worried them so they put the alert on it.

It was quite funny as they told me to hand my phone to the customer.

NOOOOOOOO

YOU contact the finance company & get them to confirm to YOU that the finance has been cleared & that they no longer have an interest in the car.
