I wouldn’t put 12 months down . Put 1 or 3 months down if you can afford the monthlies. Less risk.

thank you. What is the risk with the higher upfront?

If you’re agreeing to X term, aren’t you locked in for the total anyway?

Happy to be pointed in the direction of any useful reading on this - there’s a lot of it on PH and elsewhere, but difficult to know where to start!

If you spread the cost over many payments and pay larger monthlies, you’re likely to be better off in case you are suddenly strapped for cash (for example if a sudden large bill comes, e.g a housing issue), because you haven’t put a large dent in your bank account on the initial deposit (12 months).

Also, doing something on a 1+ or a 3+ (initial rental) deal allows you to actually gauge whether you can afford the monthly payments on the car. Because leasing is not like buying a car, it’s more like a utility bill, like a mobile phone or Sky TV. You might take money from savings or an inheritance to BUY a car, but it’s definitely a big no no to use that cash on a lease deal.

Also if you terminate a lease deal early, you will 100% lose your deposit, but the rest of the monthly payments are at the discretion of the leasing company. Some might only ask for half of the remaining payments back, or a lump sum. So if you only put 1 month down, you could end up being a lot better off.

If you write it off earlier in the lease you wont get the money back, although there is some GAP insurance that will cover an amount of the initial payment.

Hey there, can anyone recommend me a big SUV, or any car that can fit 5 comfortably for long journeys?

36/48 months, 3 month deposit, 10k miles per annum.

It's gonna be used as a third car so we aren't looking to spend a lot, I'm open to any brand or make. Preferably under £250 but really as cheap as it gets.
Thanks anyone!

The question is, how many are likely to go into a lease without the full total sum available and on hand easily, thus would be looking to cancel during it. And, how many will enter a lease and be hard hit by paying an extra 2k or so at the start for a deposit? I would always choose 9+ as it’s better to have cheaper monthlies for cash flow. The lower risk is associated with choosing to lease in the first place in my view. Insurance is the only reason to choose otherwise for me but there is gap insurance which is pretty cheap hence I stand by my choice.

Cupra Formentor or Nissan Qashqai will probably fit the bill with those terms and budget

In pursuit of a lease deal for a Tiguan, I ventured to the local VW garage. No deals on a Tiguan but very surprised to learn that with a similar £2K deposit, the Black Edition Touareg is *just* £100pm more than the Black Edition Tiguan. We are looking at £671 vs £570, so nothing to get excited over!

Can't get the Touareg out of my head now...

Looked at one while taking wife’s Tiguan to the dealer during the week and couldn’t get over how big it was close up - they don’t look big on the road.

Been think about changing down to T-Roc - wife only uses her car for local use and it doesn’t seem much smaller.

This seems like quite a reasonable T-Roc R deal in today’s climate if you keep it to a 24 month lease https://carleasespecialoffers.co.uk/car-leasing/pr...

£459 on a 1+24 10k miles

each to their own but you'd never catch me spending £700 a month on a VW.

The Touareg was always criticised for its interior quality and supposedly doesn’t feel premium enough.

I’d save the dough and go for the T-Roc.

BMW iX is probably a LOT better value as a premium 4x4.

Looks like £459 is for 5K miles. £482 for 10k which is still pretty good I guess.

Same here. Nice looking motor, though. Inside and out.

Which got me thinking. Which SUV could you get as an alternative for a similar price? S'pose a Porsche Macan or other premium vehicle is out of the question?

If you choose a reasonable deposit of 9+ then the world is your oyster. £700 is ridiculous pricing. Porsche is a rip off on lease anyway so it’s a non starter along with most other SUV’s. The flagships of each brand are usually cheaper than the large SUV’s they sell.

Looking to add an EV to the fleet - ideally looking at £4xx monthly with 3 months down. I seem to be to be leaning towards the Renault Megane E-Tech - the best deal I've found here: https://www.leaseloco.com/car-leasing/renault/mega...

3 x 48 £424.17 for 10k/year. Has anyone seen / considering something better for an EV?

Not too fussed on the car, although I am quite fond of the Megane's looks. I do like the Kia Niro, but that seems to be a far bit more expensive.

Is a personal lease (no company scheme yet / ltd co to put it through). The more I can save on the EV, the more I'll have to spend on the weekend toy (so my wife has promised!).

The peugeot e-2008 and MG ZS are both cheaper. The peugeot has a slightly smaller range but is handsomely trimmed, the MG is not particularly nice but has a great range and a low price

Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a strong competitor to the Megane
