I hope they can remain the budget choice, but it may be that it’s becoming impossible to operate profitably at Dacia’s current place in the UK/EU market. The suggested model of using engines that are a generation or so older may cause problems meeting emissions regs, and using older platforms with less tech has already exposed them to some criticism of their safety ratings. Just leaving out soft touch plastic from the interior probably doesn’t save much.
The engines are current tech. As of close of play today, Sandero Essential is being dropped, leaving the Comfort as the entry point for Dacia, at £13,595.00.

They are actualy using current modern platform (CMF) and current engines, will also be joined my a current hybrid system for the new generation vehicles. Only the duster is using an updated version of an old gen platform which will be be replaced for the new model. The low ncap score is a quirk of how the tests are carried out. They actually perform quite well in a crash, they just don't have all the gadgets and gizmos that prevent a crash, which is a bonus for many as it saves on weight and cost and means there's less to go wrong, which may be part of the reason Dacia score very high up in the reliability and satisfaction rankings, second only to lexus in one of the poles. I'm still loving my Duster that I bought new Feb 2021.
Been all over the UK in it and I've come from cars with 4x the power.
Shame if it starts to get so pricey that I wouldn't consider another as a replacement in a few years. Did fancy the Bigster.
Guess I just keep the Duster going and luxuriate in the fact that it only cost £10,500.

if the Bigster comes in with a competitive price and a basic utilitarian spec at the bottom it could be a cracking car. I don't mind if the do high spec or specials if they keep the basic cars tooBeen all over the UK in it and I've come from cars with 4x the power.

Agreed, the prices have increased a lot over the last 18 months and the dropping of the cheaper lower spec models means the entry point is much higher now. I still believe the typical person who bought a Dacia is someone who owns a ten years old+ second hand car and realises they can buy a new Dacia for not much more than replacing it with another second hand car.Lots of people on the Duster thread bought their cars when they were under £11K, at that price nothing could touch it. The cheapest Dacia is now £13,595 (£14,180 with metallic and another £300 for a spare wheel), if prices of second hand cars fall it becomes harder and harder to justify one.

Essential is still available on the continent, shame its not gonna be available here, seems Brits are too snobby for entry level cars
It's still available on the Stepway and Jogger but I wonder for how long. Talking to a salesman he said most people go for the top spec cars as "it doesn't make much difference to the monthly payments"I bet the essential will be gone entirely within 3 months.
Yeah Dacia to many was ONLY the "essential spec" that was of interest funny enough.
Kind of doesn't make that much sense to me spending any more on one of these when a good used car, is probably better value for money - but they do seem popular and hideously cheap still by comparison to other marques, not sure on the Joggers looks tbh, looks abit awkward.

I think even with a reasonable spec Jogger, you will struggle to get something second hand with 7 seats and an equivalent 6 year warranty for anywhere near the price. Even the top spec is an absolute bargain compared to anything else new with a 3rd row of seats. As someone has mentioned its cheap finance and lease deals thats killed the entry level cars, a shame if you want to buy outrightKind of doesn't make that much sense to me spending any more on one of these when a good used car, is probably better value for money - but they do seem popular and hideously cheap still by comparison to other marques, not sure on the Joggers looks tbh, looks abit awkward.
The pricing delta between top and bottom of the range is ~£2000. Which gives you parking sensors, lane departure thingy, heated seats & wing mirrors, Apple/Android Auto and the funky roof bars.
At this level in the market that is decent level of bump for another £2K no?
We are changing the "second" car just now and its achingly hard to ignore when you need 7 seats but your ego wants a Disco/Q7/Premium SUV and you know you'll probably lose as much in its life time versus say 3 years on any of the others.

I have two large dogs so need a car with a large boot. I live in South Cheshire and for many dog owners the default choice is discovery/defender 110 and occasionally a RRS. The starting price of those is approx £55-60k or £80k for the RRS. I have recently bought a top spec Jogger for dog/mtb dutiesAt this level in the market that is decent level of bump for another 2K no?

and a i20n for fun. Combined cost £44k. Tax on both cars combined will be less than on the LR's. I have owned a discovery in the past and LR love to charge a fortune for servicing. Wouldn't be surprised if servicing ends up cheaper as well.

And you'll only see the dealers when a service is due, unlike LR which has separation anxiety and has to go back a lot!
Yeah, I lost nearly £20k in three years on my Landover.Back at the dealers a day after I picked it up, for a week!, then many other visits during our time together.
Two big breakdowns, involving being transported away, during family holidays as well.
Glad we were only in Suffolk not The Serengeti.
Then the eyewatering servicing costs at the main dealer.
£300 for a new tyre. No thanks, took it away and got the same Pirelli for £100 fitted elsewhere. Never again.
I'm such a cliche. Just as summarised above!
I stuck an order in today. Coming from a 15yr old Volvo and would usually never dream of buying a new car for the runaround duties. However have 4 kids and don't think the 2nd hand market is offering good value. Quite looking forward to zero unexpected financial risk motoring for 6 years.
I went for the extreme mostly because I like the idea of android auto flipping on wirelessly when I get in. Not bothered by heated seats and reversing camera.
It will mostly be used for school runs for older 2 and chucking a bike in so spare seats will be in the cellar except for now and then when family trips aren't in my wife's car.
Tested 2 seats in each row...

Only thing to remember is that you need to use the left seat to gain access to the rear row, so might be better having the two seats next to each other in the middle row.
The Extreme SE is still a bargain, even with price increases. Incredible really!

The 2 carseats don't fit in the centre and side seats on the middle row, so on the (hopefully rare) occasions I need to drive all 4 I will have to whip a carseat out to post 2 anklebiters into the back.
For most of the time without all kids I think a roadbike will post through the boot unnolested, a 29er mtb will probs need to have the front wheel removed.

Boo. Oh well. Corolla Touring it is then
The 1.8 boot is not bad but due to the extra size of the 2.0 theres no space in the front for the 12v battery so this is relocated to the boot, so the floor is quite a bit higher and impacts the size.
