Situations change and with the mileage I’m doing now it’s not possible to own a diesel.

Problem for me it’s from a dealer, MOT has run out, and previous MOT states rust under neath. Would need to know more.

At your price range I would avoid dealers

I don’t think it’s a dealer. I have seen the MOT has run out. The rust is a worry. But I’ve asked for some more information. Or would you avoid.

If they got a new MOT and you could see where the rust is it would be ok. Need to check servicing, history etc.

They said they haven’t got time to do the MOT. Which is a worry. It sounds like the Sigum I went to see. Again no MOT. The thing is you can’t drive it, so I’m not sure how you can purchase it without it having an MOT. I don’t own a trailer either.

It sounds as if you aren't very confident when it comes to cars. Nothing wrong in that, but my advice would be to wait until you find something with a recent MOT.

If a garage is saying it has no time to MOT a car it's because they know there are likely to be issues. They want a trade sale to someone prepared to invest time and money into the car.

You are buying almost at the bottom of the market, buy on condition, proof of some recent maintenance and from someone you feel you could trust.

Both were private sellers. I’m no mechanic but I know the basics. I’ve said to both I would pay full asking if an MOT was done. I know it’s what I’ve been trying to do is buy on condition and one that’s been somewhat looked after. It’s always a challenge at Tv his end of the market. I was thinking of maybe paying one of the AA or RAC inspections.

OP please stop looking at dealers or cars with no MOT. They have no MOT for a reason.

The last two you sent, one is spares or repair, and the other is a diesel which you said you can’t have.

At your price range, get on FB marketplace, or gumtree and find the best car that’s manual, petrol, has decent MOT and got service and history. Buy that and stop looking at dealers. You buying at the bottom of the market so a private seller will give you the best option.

Where about are you based? What’s the closet town?

I can’t see why I should not look at dealers. They just put spares or repair to cover themselves as they can’t legally put sold as seen. FB is a joke, full of time waster and people who don’t respond, same with Gumtree and eBay. Autotrader you at least find people than want to sell you their car.

I’m based in Liverpool.

The problem is dealers are looking to make a profit, so the car is only really a 1500 car.

30 miles from a central Liverpool postcode.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205025... Decent Vectra.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205045... Corolla

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202203063... Mondeo

All above are private sellers.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202204204... Focus

Above are dealers

Loads more I could find. Yes not estates or MPV but will be fine to carry tools, and get a cheap roof rack for stepladders. All of those cars you will need to check MOT history and what service history they have, but cheap to run, easy to fix yourself, and should be a perfect run about.

I went for an evening walk and seen a local Subaru Forester XTe spec with FSH. Was asking £2500 for it but it needed a few consumables replacing so offered £2000. I’m very impressed.
