I know all that - I'm Trade

I also know that when I checked a bike it showed as a FAIL on HPi yet not recorded, the reason given was "Sold at salvage auction" it meant I couldn't sell it as HPI clear so had to reduce the price
More importantly, we missed your 25,000th post on your 250th month.

If your on facebook you may wish to have a look at the "copart victims" group.

Its full of people like yourself who think they can save a few quid buying a written off car to do up and then realise why no-one else had purchased it previpusly!
Seems to be full of absolute thickos that use the terms "would of", "should of" and "could of" very frequently.

Car shows 2 errors in the visual inspection, open bonnet and flat tyre. However there's a critical error warning light on the dash. I've asked them to plug in an odb and get the fault codes and they are looking into it!

For clarification my nephew did not bid 20k, but I appreciate the wild accusations and insinuations!

Copart are a remarketing outfit... and as for all cars sold via a "salvage auction" then having a marker against them, even if they are clean, unrecorded vehicles... yeah I'm reasonably confident that's not the case.

As for the O.P..

What could possibly go wrong

Good luck.

Vcheck specifically advertise that they index salvage auctions - https://www.vcheck.uk/ - because some write-offs aren't showing up on HPI - https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/106336/excl...

How much would you like to bet ?

I've literally bought and sold such vehicles - it says they are NOT recorded but they DON'T get a pass certificate

I see its sold on approval (didn't make reserve).

Does anybody know what it went for and is the OP the highest bidder?

I can tell here that very few posters above have ever bought from salvage auction.

I've bought 4 cars from copart, unseen on the basis of the pictures with minor damage.

Each time I've fixed up with 2nd hand parts.

Each time I haven't saved any money vs buying a recorded equivalent car on autotrader.

However I have saved money vs unrecorded cars, and I know I have fixed them myself properly.

Stolen recovered rarely go for much less than retail price (once you've factored in delivery and fees and some bork money).

Consider this: every car I bought has had more wrong with it than can be seen in the pics or description.

This car will have had its identity established before auction. So thats not a problem. It may have a random bit of metal riveted to it with the correct VIN, thats all you need for MOT etc. Anyone buying it off you in future will be able to see the VIN is tampered, therefore you will have to sell it on for less.

What put me off stolen recovered is that sometimes you have 3 or 4 years of no service history. If you nicked it in the first place you are hardly going to bother spending money servicing it. It may or may not have any oil in it......

I was indeed the highest bidder at a point where I wasn't willing to go any higher. despite this it hadn't reached the sellers reserve which is a solid 5k higher than my bid.

I'm unwilling to go to that price point because you could literally buy one from a dealer with a warranty at that point.
Quite odd and ultimately a little disappointing, there truly are no free lunches!

At the moment they have invited me to purchase it at the reserve, I have declined and the seller has lowered the reserve but I am.only willing to pay what I bid

Well done for holding your ground. If that was his reserve you wonder what he was hoping it would go for.

The sellers have accepted my offer which was 5k under the reserve. This seems like a pretty decent indicator that the car is good if the reserve was set so high. Next step is delivery to my mechanic and V62, MOT and Tax to get it back on the road.

I do have some buyers remorse and I am not sure I will hold on to it as even webuyanycar would give me a small profit now if the car isn't completely rubbish.

Lets wait and see what happens

WBAC would buy it at profit? Were you honest with your appraisal?

Fixed that for you.

Look, I'll eat my hat if it's any good but I sincerely wish you the best with it. I'd video the experience though and get it on youtube, it hasn't done that guy with the Influenzo any harm.
