Why do the thieves target Golf R’s out of interest?

They aren’t especially valuable, or exotic. Is the security particularly bad or something? If I was a scummer I would be picking out the Porsche 911s, not the fast Golf.
Easy to steal, easy to move on, lots of them about, blend in etc.

Fiesta, Focus, Golf and Range Rovers the top 5 most stolen cars in the UK last year. Anything exotic doesn't get a look in.

If it’s useful to know at all, I live in an area where cars often go missing unfortunately.

My Giulia veloce was never once “checked” by the scallies, whereas the neighbours’ S3 and S4s and Range Rovers were (basing this on motion-sensitive CCTV, neighbours CCTV, and their success in taking the S3).

When I swapped the Giulia for the R, there was immediate interest unfortunately, and this contributed to me quickly selling it.

So whilst the Giulias do now have a well-known weakness, and I know some are being taken, they doesn’t seem to attract the attention relatively speaking. If you lasted that long with the Golf, you’ll probably be alright with the Giulia. All speculative of course, but food for thought.

If our cars were stoken off the drive then the replacement would be a tesla given anti theft tech and low crime risk, or a really boring hyundai.

Now we will have to replace - but with what?
Want a practical fun to drive car, comfortable for longer motorway miles, not too big, but takes 3 adults plus luggage, so need back seats that can take adults comfortably.
An auto probably most suitable, for the use (we have other manual cars.)
Live in North London so don't need an SUV or anything too big.
Budget up to circa £35k, 2018 ish or newer.
Audi S4 Avant. The V6TFSI model.

Yes, parts. Very popular car. Thieves steal them, break them, sell the individual parts. A £30k car maybe broken for as little as a few hundred quid.

Same with Abarth’s, a group got jail time that regularly stole the cars then would sell the parts on the owners club. Still a few questionable sales posts pop up every now and then but no one questions it just “how much!”

They’re the perfect job car.

Loads of them about. Loads to clone from. Ultimately moving freely for little hassle which means they can use them in further crimes. Extremely fast and capable even for mediocre drivers, meaning police have a hard time keeping up…

Why on Earth would a thief/thieves call back at a house they'd already robbed? Thieves are thick, in general, but not that thick. OP put a fake alarm box and camera outside the front and get on with your life.
They always used to but I've been out a few years . Burgle the house, wait until the insurance had paid out and the owner had replaced everything that was nicked then do it again. Repeat victims, very common and a normal tactic. Not just houses but schools and businesses.

In relation to cars, yep no reason they'd return unless the victim planted a replacement Golf R on his driveway or something equally attractive then they may well give it another go.

I do have i30N Fastback (manual) and i can recommend it for you. It is very practical and DCT one is also quite fast. Driving dynamics is spot on for both fun driving and long distance driving. Goes around corner very well.

Nothing to complain really. Custom mode allows you to set up car how you like it. All driving modes are very well dialed in, personal favorite is maybe Sport for road driving. N mode makes this car special and i like it a lot, but i use it quite rarely. When i use it i drive like a hooligan. So theres that.
hyundai nexo, surely wink
Yes, that is propably my next car.

A 911 will stand out much more than a Golf plus the 911 is a lot more likely to have a tracker fitted.
I assume most of the stolen Golf R parts will end up on a 1.6 tdi Copart special.

Sorry to hear about your car theft OP.

Many years ago, in the height of those super cheap lease deals on Golf R's, I was car jacked for mine, the whole held up with knives/cosh from masked scumbags in broad daylight. Mine was a 5 door, which was the perfect vehicle for committing further burglary. Over the period I remember many on here having theirs stolen too..

Unfortunately my incident shocked me to my core and didn't want to drive anything hot for a while. However I think you have the right idea, don't let them win and beef up your security. Just make it harder for them and they move on to something else...

I know this has been discussed to death on here but my fear, if someone is willing to break into a house to steal a car, would be that they won't move on, they may just try harder. Whats to say they wouldn't sit and wait for you to go out and car jack you?

Don't know the OP's situation but I've got young kids and if it got to the point where I was having to beef up security to prevent people entering the house to take a car on the driveway, I'd be getting a less desirable car or moving somewhere else.

I swapped my Golf R for a Model 3 performance, if you have the possibility to charge at home, go test drive one is all I would add.

That does worry me, so would like something that is a bit of a sleeper. But I am not going to buy a boring car - will up the defences first!
This response amazes me. Do you have children? Separate the cars that were stolen and the fact that burglars entered your house to steal something. What would have happened if you were in, your kids, family? Having cars on your drive that attracts trouble, thieves, is not clever in my view, but each to their own.

Depends what’s important to you, but if I had my house broken into and both motors stolen off the drive, the last thing I’d want are replacements which are attractive to thieves. Buy something dull and boring and sleep well at night, or move to a different area.

Moving doesn't solve the issue, they like stealing from nice areas and rarely their areas.

There's a big gap between a car that is very high on the list of thefts (Golf R) and something dull and boring.
