Regarding the W126, you can save an awful lot of money if you don't mind a slight deficit of alloy wheels and cylinders.

Superb. It's ripe for an engine conversion.
I'd be happy with the 3 litre lump, to be honest.

Goodness me those back seats are something else. Never been sat in??

Most definitely a decent engine, I'm just imagining an M119 with 5sp box fantasy.

An overpriced E39 540i once owned by Sir David Attenborough, the V8 barge lover.

This is a bit of perfection.

Not a bad price for a 'unicorn' facelift S211 E500 with the M273 5.5L V8. Crack prone 18" tyres, too.

Last time I got given a key that 'just needed a battery' it was from a different car
I came here to say exactly that. If you're selling a car you take 2 minutes to put a CR2032 in the key rather than have to explain that the key doesn't work, unless the key actually doesn't work.
Take one with you and tell him to swap the battery and watch him squirm with some lame excuse as to why he cant/won't

Almost perfect mot history as well. If i had a job that involved lots of frequent motorway trips (and I could afford the fuel and insurance and get decent car allowance from work and therefore ditch the tesla), I'd be all over that and daily it as Mercedes intended.
But I don't, so I won't. Wish I did though....

W211 E500 pre-facelift with the M113 5L V8 coming up for sale in the Barons Auction (South). I haven't looked up the MOT history, but there's a decent range of photos on the brochure and it looks as though it has honest cosmetic wear (perished lacquer is mildly alarming though!).

It's nearly a quarter of a century old. Lacquer damage is surely expected, I'd imagine on a black car kept outdoors.

I'm afraid the two W126 recently posted, and older Mercedes in general just validate my opinion that the newer models are not nearly as desirable...other opinions are available and equally valid however. beer

Nice.

Why did they get rid of the button to lower the rear headrests on the facelift?

Never seen rusty wing mirror glass before.

Seems they serviced it the way they specced it. Stingily.

On a motorway run, I bet that wouldn't be too bad on fuel at all. Probably in the 30s?

Oh yeah! One of my greatest titivations was the re-instatement of that function on mine. Perhaps Stegel will be along in a while to tell us, as he owns one.

The problem is the 4 speed box which runs high revs. They take off in 2nd unless provoked effectively rendering them a 3 speed.

I ran a 280e with the same box and that was its achiles heel.

Would do me fine. Slow and steady wins the race these days.

I think that's the way to approach them, sit at 60 on a long journey and it would be pleasant enough.

I'd bet its fine sitting at 80 all day truth be told. But yes, I'm more of a 60/65 watch the world go by driver these days...

Happy Friday losers.

Sadly 'P.O.A.' nonsense, but a fetching 6 litre V12 XJS. Who the hell only does 1,344 miles in it though?

Happy Friday losers.

Now changed from P.O.A. in October to £50,000
