It is a shame to keep such a lovely car if you do not use it. Sell it, hopefully to someone who will use it more....V8 SL not used enough...sell or keep...

Picked the car up last night. What an utterly beguiling little car. Yes its got quite a stiff ride but 16 years old, no knocks or bangs. Not the most civilised without the radio on, guessing not much soundproofing so it 'makes weight' and, in typical Honda fashion, everything works. Cruise, driving modes, air con, every control works perfectly and in a logical way. Only gripe is that I don't find it particularly comfortable but then, strange car on a dark road at night, was never gonna be a breeze, and I won'tbe using it much. By the time I got on the dual carriageway I put it in cruise at 60mph and tried 'eco' mode and it purred along at over 60mpg. Love the way the dash looks and all the information it is constantly giving you. Little spaceship inside for 16 years old.
Yup, like it. Not for me, for Mrs and she has just had a quick spin and likes it hugely. First time she has had her own car for over four years so today is her independence day, it will make a huge difference for her now she has taken early 'semi-retirement'.
Must say, one of THE best manual gear changes ive encountered. Will keep y'all posted...mot does beckon...
Well done Biggbn. I hope she is happy in it. Yup, like it. Not for me, for Mrs and she has just had a quick spin and likes it hugely. IIRC a CRV has that nicely raised driving position so beloved of the female of the species.
Mrs QBee has her own Saab 9-5 estate and is smitten with it and won't countenance me changing it for something newer (and less rusty).
We got it 11 years ago now for £895 and it recently had its 26th birthday. I keep telling her she's a cheap date.
Same colour and wheels as this one...

Got a proud text from her today saying she had been to the shops and along for an appointment. Kid with a new toy. Having that independence will make a huge difference. As others have said crz, not crv...hate to use the term but...modern classic?

I understand the M278 used in the SL500 (and other 500/550s) changed to steel cylinder liners in March 2015 - I don t think the change applied to the closely related M157, which is strange given I can only assume the change was to address the bore score issue which afflicts both engines. I m not certain when the FL R231 was launched, but I think the engine change will have applied to the last pre-FL cars.
I m not that worried about rear subframes - if it s sound, slathering it inside and out in your rust prevention wax of choice isn t that difficult - and chain, chain guide and minor oil leak issues are relatively easily addressed, in my view, compared to the bore score issues which effectively write off the engine. I would still disconnect the pressure reduction solenoid, first making sure it was in the full pressure position.
Certainly a case of facelift cars being preferable.
Until the last few pages of this thread I wasn't aware of oil pressure/bore score issues despite what I thought was decent research albeit 3 years ago. Are failure rates known to afflict one engine over the other? Maybe why Merc put the liners in one and not the other.

Great to see your Mrs really likes it. It's probably a much better thing to razz about in than a wafty XC90 barge if you don't need the space, and will be far more economical!Yup, like it. Amazing. Didn't realise these were that cheap.
Thank you. It had been stood for a few months and had some stale fuel in it. Needs a few things fixing and a good wash still.Really not a bad place to be at all. I have a thread on readers cars somewhere.
