The epitome of powerful and discrete.
Discreet? Lime green with what looks like a Max Power body kit of the day.
Also I didn't know the Ford engines SAABs retained the freewheel - I thought that was an artefact of the 2-stroke engines.

nice one, gotta be worth a 12 month punt for that money

i can imagine the conversations with the "well respected Porsche specialist" went something like this....

owner:"the engines got a strange judder"
specialist: "A New Timing Chain will fix it"
owner:"the engines still got a strange judder"
specialist: "New Engine Mounts will fix it"
owner:"the engines still got a strange judder"
specialist: "New Starter Motor ill fix it"
owner:"the engines still got a strange judder"

get where i'm going with it ;-)

until eventually
specialist: "i've tried everything, perhaps a new engine - or get rid of it mate........."

Don't forget "the tyres are probably imbalanced, I'd get them changed, see if it works"

That said, for that money, it's got to be a bit of fun. Even if it breaks, there's easily £3k worth of parts in it to recoup some of the loss.

Thud.

How ruinous are these really?
ABC, megatax, headbolts, empeegees. Can imagine parts might be difficult to get hold of? Still tempting in that hue, nevertheless.
Oof!

Winter early morning start ups must sound brilliant!
These don't have ABC, but airmatic. This one would be ideal with the 'right' AMG wheels. Love the spec.

oh i agree - given the price of train tickets these days for 2 of us, this would pay for itself with 8 return trips down south (or up north depending.....)
(fuel excluded of course, but you get my drift, especially as youd be able to load up with luggage, and listen to your own radio and not the guy 2 rows behind blasting out his ear drums while muching on big bags of crisps)

That's just up the road from me, it's parked next
to a C215 CL and the seller is called Michael. Hello, local barge chum smile

I did wonder about that. Hopefully he's kept the original.

I imagine there's better OEM looking ways of integrating CarPlay/AA.
The genuine Bentley upgrade screen isn’t much different.

Quick correction:
specialist: "i've tried everything for your judder, let's try injectors next"
Owner: How much, injectors can't be that much?
Specialist: I've actually found some on sale, £1440 for 8, plus fitting, and the vat on both...
Owner: Bye bye car

Considering GOL was able to get 1500 quid for our ruined 2003 with no MOT or functional wipers, 3k for a later direct injected 4.8 seems like decent value especially given the work done but I've heard injectors are a real weak point on these with a full set of Porsche oems being the cure for all sorts of misfires and odd running faults. The fact that parts cannon didn't have them listed would have me very nervous...

He did very well considering cat N and no MOT, I guess the miles were very nice.
The light fault is probably gonna be £250ish for a second hand lamp and removal of the bumper and wing to fit... I know because when I was an apprentice I used non vented wing covers on one of these which trapped the light and completely melted the lenses and has to change two cry
Headlamp washers usually get gummed up, wants a knee against one whilst they're squirted to prevent it coming out, the increased pressure usually clears out the other side.

Yeah but that there IS a parts cannon has got to count for something on a 175k bashed Porsche.

True. If Porsche's ad with the old tractor is anything to go by they have a similar policy to Mercedes about keeping the old cars going.

Sigh, remember when every mass market manufacturer would sell you a V6 in that class of car?

Then one day I was helping a friend browse the new car options and none of them had anything more than four cylinders. VW, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Ford, Renault... Not a V6 among them.

Technology marches on, these days you get the same performance as these lazy V6s out of a 1.4l four cylinder hybrid for a fraction of the petrol so they're well and truly obsolete in a standard family car. And going forward with electric there's silly performance and sophisticated quietness as the new normal so this thread should eventually be filled with Taycans or Spectres hehe

I've given up trying to explain to my mum that you can't judge a car's performance based purely on engine capacity these days.

I keep reminding myself that the single biggest cost of car ownership is depreciation, and therefore there is a place in our 21st century world for the comfortable older vehicle. I am reminded of this every time I make the accounting entries for the month's depreciation of my employer's car fleet.

Similarly there is a place for the comfortable older gentleman too, as I am reminded when I watch a quiz program on TV and see a 70 year old trouncing a 20 year old. I find myself, at 72, enjoying the 70 year old's breadth of knowledge and don't care if, like me, they don't know who won the Mercury Music Prize last year.

Both the older vehicle and the older gent manage pefectly well without Apple CarPlay, thank you getmecoat

Ford Fairlane for just over thread. Never heard of these before, are they similar to the big US Fords of the time? https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C2001942

I wonder if it got any Bogan rep from it's Falcon stablemate or Holden Commadore competition?
In the UK I have only seen Ford Fairlanes used by funeral directors.
Ian Seabrook aka Hubnut runs/ran a Fairmont (a SWB Fairlane) in Wales, of course.

Doesn't sound that bad honestly. I'd be all over it if I had the time and space.
