12th Gen, so also watch out for dash cracks. Fortunately most of the VIP stuff is reversible, the air suspension is factory and people play with it to get it "proper lowz" - again fixable.

Couple of bits I have issue "rare UK car", err no, never sold over here and the disc changer I don't think was ever offered with this gen (especially a 2006) as it switched to a hard drive and you import the discs into the head unit.
I take most issue with this though -

Had a pre-MOT inspection – only needs a couple bulbs, rear exhaust back box
- the head/rear lights, afaik they are single units that are pricy to sort therefore if it truly is actual bulbs then just sort them out before selling.

Price is about right if the pre-inspection bits were sorted, the engine is amazingly smooth and it's not far off a Century in terms of comfort imo.

Heads up for the Crown aficionados on here. Michael Portillo's new show is in Japan and he rides in a Crown. I didn't realise they had automatic doors? smile

Why would you do a pre MOT inspection. It's £40 to put it through. If you're not doing that then you've got something to hide.

Will this car eat my life?
We look forward to the forecourt shot and its first outing at the Bicester Scramble.

You know what to do!

I think I've got every original Crown brochure from the 5th gen (1974) right through to the current 16th Gen except for the 10th, 11th and 12th gen Majesta's... beard needs more growing laugh

For me the 13th gen G Package interior just looks so comfortable, heated/cooled to go with the reclining in the rear.

What's a VIP conversion? Ruining it with massive wheels, tints and stupid exhausts?

That looks very inviting and not a quilted and embossed piece of leather in sight.

Potentially fantastic- I'd get myself a large espresso and spend plenty of time reading through all the history. If everything works and the risky areas (suspension mainly, followed by pneumatics and electrics) have been attended to then well worth a punt. I think at 2007 it should have the 5.5 engine rather than the slightly underwhelming 5.0.

Basically yes, the aim is to promote a version of luxury so what you've said plus

cambered to illegal levels
slammed to the floor on air suspension
tables attached to the front passenger side (ready to break your face when you have a crash)
dangling things from the mirror
curtains
bodykits

There are some more fun examples, making your boot useless because you have a waterfall... I mean why, but impressive to get it working.

on a personal level Bosozoku and other parts of the JDM scene I like to see the ideas and workmanship going into some of these, but I would never like to do it on mine, it's a comfortable fast car - why change that.

Tempting. I've just remembered I don't do black cars. Smudges and swirls would drive me nuts. The time for an S Class may be near, though. I hope it sells quickly. Otherwise, I might go and see it.

Have it detailed and ceramic coated and you’ll be fine. Go on, go on…….rofl

I bought a cheap Merc from that dealer and they were decent to deal with, although it had a slight coolant leak which I'm convinced they must've known about and didn't declare (the message to check the coolant popped up on my journey home). They focus on high value stuff (their yard is packed full of lovely stock) so understandably just want rid of the bargain basement stuff like that S Class.

With the benefit of no information whatsoever, I would imagine that the S class was a car they took in part-exchange for one of their high end catalogue.

Having audited the accounts of a main dealer or two before now, the lower priced luxo-barge part-ex part of the used car forecourt is the part of the business most dealers wish they didn't have to have, because the risk of things that can go wrong with the cars they sell on far outweighs any profit they might make.

I think if I could satisfy myself it wouldn't implode as I drove it away and would remain operational for the foreseeable future I'd low ball the dealer and offer to sign a disclaimer of no comeback. Effectively a private sale so he was square and washed his hands of it.

That is exactly the basis on which I bought from them - and I'm fine with that, I have no interest in wasting a dealers time over a car that is worth little more than scrap to them. I just would've preferred to have known about the fault.
