I'm thinking that these smaller local auctions, and the ever tempting ACA, could be the way to buy interesting smokers now. The private market is split between driveway flippers trying to make money for nothing on turds, specialists who have great cars but really know how to charge for them, private sellers who want £2 for every £1 their car is worth, and abandoned projects.
You can even go on the viewing days to look at the cars, so the risk isn't really any more than a private sale or driveway flipper.

I'm curious as to why lot 3, the S124 4-pot was so cheap. Generally my overriding takeaway is how cheap are some cars here in the UK? What a time to buy something interesting for not much £s. Not so good for sellers though.
And the V12 R129, lot 79 for £13,850 + fees. An incredible car for f
k all, really.

Cheaper tax and I did an insurance quote, £350 fully comp for me from the RAC. Might have to pop over for a look. Do they take tow bars and roof bars I wonder.

k all, really.That SL600 was an absolute steal, peak Mercedes Benz for £15k to drive it away. You could spend £10k on it and it'd still be cheaper than some dealer who fancies himself a classic "expert" would want from you for one he ran a gritty sponge over after collecting it.

Front plate suggests that it's a Jap Import. k all, really.But indeed, some amazing prices there. An RS4 Avant for £11,800 plus fees etc!
The E46 325i auto piques my interest as I'm now looking at these as a first car for the boy (in 316i manual
flavour).
ETA also the Lotus Elans, Minis and the XK8s appeal strongly, particularly the convertible in time for summer for just over a couple of bags!

That XK8 looked cheap but was at prime gearbox dying mileage, I'd advise anyone to either get a 4.0R with the Mercedes 5G box, or a 4.2 with the ZF6.Edited by bolidemichael on Sunday 3rd May 18:21

The only way I seem to find them is from eBay listings which just direct you to the actual auction listing.

I wondered that, and what prompts a seller to use them rather than a bigger auction house, private sale, or just WBAC? I imagine the lack of reach and thus lack of dreamers keeps the values grounded in reality.
